HBO fighters are just that, HBO fighters.

They can call themselves stars if they want.

The problem is, it is impossible for HBO to " create " a genuine star.

If the fighter is a genuine star, then HBO had nothing to do with it.

And their attempts to earmark/convince viewers that certain fighters will be a star, have continually failed.

Berto got paid ridiculous purses to fight underwhelming opponents, and HBO "created" nothing out of him.

So, Gennady or Sergey can beat other HBO fighters, so fkn what.

Not interested in manufactured fighters.

And if a fighter is a genuine star, we wil likely know before HBO does.

Fcuk letting TV networks have any say over anything.

They care about one thing, and one thing only, so they are as biased and unreliable as hell.

Gabe Montoya interview Haymon way back in the day about making Paul Williams vs Vernon Forrest (both Haymon fighters). Al agreed that it would be a great fight, then Gabe asked if he'd be willing to make it - Al said nope. It was all about milking the cow (HBO).

That said - I do feel HBO/Showtime have hurt the sport by subsidizing it so that certain fighters don't have to take tough fights in order to earn high pay and also by segregating the sport away from the main stream viewers and sponsors.

You complain about manufactured fighters on HBO, but what do you think you have in the PBC? What's Deontay Wilder? He didn't run no gauntlet to achieve his fame and fortune. Alot of these guys in the PBC are making millions for bs showcase fights like Lara/Rodriguez, Guerrero/Martinez, Stevenson/Karpency. It's a mess on both sides because both are demanding exclusivity. HBO wants their brand, and Al's trying to create his own brand.

Arum is an exception, for obvious reasons.

Anyone who refuses to work with anyone else is the problem, because they cause fragmentation..... Bob Arum is an exception, for obvious reasons.

Haymon will break bread with anyone..... HBO will not.

Anything with the word " exclusive " is the problem.

So, exclusive TV deals are out, and so are promoters who refuse to deal with EVERYONE..... as opposed to someone.

I dont have an issue with Haymon for refusing to deal with Bob Arum.

1) he is not the first guy who has refused to deal with Arum
2) Arum has been proven to be inherently dishonest, shamefully so
3) you cannot do business with somebody who you cannot trust

And, Bob "inhouse" Arum is the guy who refuses to deal with other promoters unless he is forced to do so because he has no other options.

The worst things about boxing are..... the 4 official sanctioning bodies, exclusive TV deals, catchweights, Bob Arum.

Nobody chooses to get injured, and nobody chooses legal arbitration over fighting.

That is utter ignorance fueled by desperation.

Opting for arbitration rather than exploitation, is every mans right.

It doesn't even matter if Ward was wrong about the specifics, it is his right to question irregularities or unsatisfactory results/decisions that pertain to his contract.

Better a few months of inactivity, than years of whining because you got exploited, like all of Don Kings ex fighters.

Just look at Mikey Garcia's situation.

Ward CHOOSE to sue Goosen in court twice, and his case was thrown out both times. He was preparing to take them to court again when Roc stepped in, bought out his contract, and paid him an undisclosed signing fee.

He could have carried on fighting while sueing Goosen, that was made clear, but he CHOOSE not to.

He could have fought 3 times since signing with Roc, on HBO, for big money, against decent opponents. But he CHOOSE to go after cans like Sartisan, Truax, and Smith instead, so ended up fighting just once, on BET, in front of a crowd of complimentary ticket holders.

Ward doesn't want challenges any more, he wants to milk his super 6 achievements for as long as he can, for as much money as he can screw out of his promoters for fighting bums.

If they had a genuine reason to object to that fight they would state that reason and then they would stick to it.
