Although i agree with Rocky Jr that weight is indeed a factor, i would say the weight is more pronounced in the smaller weight classes, where a lb or gram would have more of a effect. Thats just my opinion. Also they have an identical record but their respective opposition varies tremendously, Mayweathers 49 spans 5 weight classes while Marcianos was just the HW division. Still impressive nonetheless but i feel that "fans" are trying elevate Marcianos status only bcuz FMJ matched it...before the popular opinion was Marciano was a good HW in a weak era.Comment

I think it was a case of sour g****s, because he lost a chance to tie Marciano's record to a LHW in Spinks. Also, Marciano's family & the media were hyping up the event, with Marciano's people hoping Holmes failed. Jr hit the nail right on the head, going 49-0 in the heavyweights matters much more because of the size differential and the fact that any one punch can change the game these guys need to be in top physical peak and Marciano was certainly that.
Floyd Mayweather wouldn't be able to do a 49-0 in the heavyweights that's a fact.
