I'm sorry but waiting for the best moment doesn't make you the greatest, Floyd only fights two times a year its absolutely not much that we ask him to fight the best each and every time that he steps into that ring BECAUSE he is the P4P #1 and he says he is "TBE" so essentially the Berto fight is something which is totally non defensible.

You have to look past your Floyd tinted specs and realize that this man is by far worse than the combo of Marciano, Calzaghe and Ottke combined.
No legitimate historian of boxing will rate Floyd up their with the all time greats.
Why would a young, up and coming fighter get more credit than someone who is already "established" as you say?

Sugar Ray Leonard didn't fight Aaron Pryor when that fight was hot, he openly admitted to waiting Marvin Hagler out until he realized Hagler was on the slide, and he didn't fight Mike Mccallum because Mccallum beat Sugar Ray's brother in the amateurs, he fought Duran at a weightclass where Duran was not at his best and he still lost. Yet Sugar Ray is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Floyd has fought and beat more world champions than Marciano Calzaghe, and Ottke combined so how is he far worse than those guys?

Because Floyd's last five years have not been of the actions of someone who wants to fight the very best fighters but still to a high proportion.
Their is a difference between the highest level and to a good record for a young up and comer... Floyd isn't young he has been about a damn long time.

Sugar Ray Leonard fought regardless of missing out on the Aaron Pryor fight (pity he did) a lot of good opponents much more so than Floyd, he fought the prime version of Roberto Duran and you seen the outcome of that, fighting an opponent when he is at his best doesn't always guarantee a win but atleast you had the balls to do it!

Why did you feel the need\necessity to post a counter thread?

You could have very easily raised your imaginary counter points directly with LarryXXX and you guys could have went at it for the remainder of the evening.

But clearly, that wouldn't give you the attention you desired, hence this sorry excuse for a thread.

You're not making sense. The guys Floyd fought over the last five years were the very best at the time he fought them or ranked close to the best. Mosley was the WBA champ and the top welterweight, Cotto was the WBC light middleweight champ, Pacquiao was the WBO welterweight champ, Canelo was the WBC light middleweight champ, Maidana was the WBA welterweight champ, Guerrero was the WBC's mandatory contender. How is that not fighting the very best?

And what do you mean by the bolded part?

They may have been among the best when he fought them, however, none of them were near their best. It's funny, the same people that hate on Pac's wins over Morales/Barrerra for them being past their primes laud Floyd's win over these 3. Good wins but Floyd will always be remember for waiting for each to decline significantly before fighting. Sad really because he should be able to beat each one at their best.

**** on. I don't know why Floyd fans can't accept this, he's still great, he just isn't the greatest or close to it.

Neither was Floyd. He beat all these guys when he was well into his 30s and fighting outside of his best weightclass and still got the job done.

I don't want to get in the middle of you guys back and forth ......

But, whenever guys make the statement that someone didn't fight another in their prime or when they were at their best, they are overlooking a glaring contradiction. Floyd in his earlier years was a lot more dangerous than he is in his latter years. So, if we move the clock back for one, the clock also gets moved back for the other.

Furthermore, we can find public records of Floyd in his younger years calling out everybody and no one wanted to fight him. Google is your friend!

This is especially true for Cotto, Mosley, Casamayor, DLH and Tzsu.

                      Google the video:
Floyd calls out Kostya Tszyu, Sugar Shane Mosley, and Oscar De La hoya in 2005

                      *******

I stated all that, to say that hater's seem to have selective memory when it comes to Mayweather, dismissing factual accounts and dismissing actual events in the process.
