What a waste of talent in Gamboa. He's fighting what, once every two years? Was Crawford his last fight?

I didn't say he is ruined I said damn near ruined. It's obvious 50 cent has been HORRIBLE for Gamboa's career. The guy was one of the top 20 names in the sport easily, consistently being featured on Showtime and HBO. Then practicality disappeared once he got with 50.

He lost to Crawford because of size, not because of skill. He was in the ring with a much bigger man. It was a completely unnecessary fight for Gamboa, but an easy fight for Crawford and Top Rank to make (not nearly as much risk with a high reward). The bigger man always has the advantage going in.

He actually had a fight a few months after Crawford, against some guy Joel Montes de Oca (16-3) in Mexico. Hasn't fought since.

I'm a Gamboa fan. But it's his fault his career was ****ed... Then again maybe not, Rios is bigger than Crawford which is why he left Top Rank in the first place. Him against either of the names mentioned would be a great fight though. I'm not sure how much more his chin can take and he needs better defense but he would give them tough fights.

He wanted to work with 50, that's the sad part.

And when 50 offered top rank 2 mill for him, top rank couldn't get that deal done quick enough.

I fear the same thing will happen to Mikey Garcia once he forces his way from top rank.

There you go Loma. You want master Rigo, you have to go through Gamboa. kd! I would rather see Gamboa vs Loma. Rigo's to small for 118 IMO. He's fights at 122 on pure skill but giving a size and weight advantage to somebody as good as Loma is dangerous.

Is this why Gamboa was outboxing him for the first part of the fight? Until he got reckless and started throwing bombs

Crawford is a good boxer yeah but not 'superior'. Size and power advantage lost Gamboa that fight. The fact he was outboxing Crawford, the much bigger man, is a testament to Gamboas ability

Oh yeah, especially if Gamboa decides to throw bombs again

Gamboa could easily cruise to a UD12 against Uchiyama, but we all know he won't

                  It'd be a war.

Of course Gamboa is to blame for signing with 50 Cent. He was lured by the money and at the time you have to remember it looked like it was going to be Mayweather and 50 Cent together, taking over the game. I'm sure that's what Gamboa thought and the other guys that signed to 50 as well. Hell, half of NSB was making threads about Floyd/50 being bigger than Top Rank and Golden Boy combined.

That being said, we can all agree signing with 50 has sent Gamboa's career down the crapper. Signing to fight Crawford was a bad mistake after a year long layoff and fighting a guy huge for 135 which always seemed like it was too big of a weight class for Gamboa in the first place, being how short he is and having small arms. The thing is though, it was totally unnecessary. There was no demand for it, and I thought it was clearly a fight Bob Arum made as a stepping stone for Crawford who as we see now is on his way to 147 and potential fights with Pacquiao and the likes. It seemed like a desperate move by an inexperienced promoter getting taken for a ride by the old vet (how bad was 50 used by Bob Arum? Dude had to pay a million dollars or whatever to get him away from Top Rank, only to then in turn have Gamboa fight in a Top Rank card in which the Top Rank fighter used Gamboa as a stepping stone!)

Man...come on, I was a late adopter of the whole Crawford hype but the guy has skill, he is quick, knows how to punch and most importantly, when to punch. Walters is limited, no doubt but his size and power equals that out for him. No doubt Loma is skilled too but he isn't great against a strong, powerful pro who can bully him.
