hopkins isn't an idiot, surely he could see that stevenson's skill set was far more limited than kovalev's. i actually think he could have beaten stevenson - he only really needs to take away one punch. unless he actually believes the black supremacist **** he has occasionally come out with, in which case more fool him

Stevenson fought Bellew, in Canada on the card with Kovalev-Sillakh.
My bad, thanks for the clear up. Either way you can't take it away from Kov that he went on the road for short money and won.

Hopefully this crap with the purse bid doesn't mean Kovalev will play this same game now that he made his name and grabbed the division.
But what risks and "short ends" did GGG not want to take, when he was trying to make his name?

He tried to make fights, on their terms, with every MW champion, and was turned down. Eg, he offered to fight Martinez, in Argentina, for 15% of the purse.

Golovkin would never face Kovalev in a real fight so who the *** cares? They'd probably demand another impossible catchweight.

I replied to a comment stating Kovalev was better than GGG, and as we have no evidence to compare them I provided the only fact that we know of, I don't know how any of there other sparring sessions went, maybe Kovalev kicked Golovkins ass in them! But the one sparring session that was documented Golovkin stopped Kovalev!
Kovalev is GGG's friend, and was helping him prepare for a fight when that happened, not trying to beat him in a gym war!

Sure, there aren't many slicksters in the LHW division but I think it's safe to say that if there were and there was incentive to fight them, Kovalev would. At the very least he's actively trying to fight the top dogs in his division. And he's already stated that he 100% wants Ward when he moves up. Stevenson isn't necessarily slick but there's no doubt in my mind Kovalev wants him too. His manager was the one that messed up that whole ordeal with the bid but that's for another topic.

GGG on the other hand, wants no parts of Andre Ward or Lara. He's afraid of that slick boxing style because he knows how inexistant his defense is. He knows he'll get exposed. If only GGG had the heart and courage of Kovalev....
lol! I actually think this is quite opposite. Neither have ever fought anyone "slick" per say unless you count a little old man Hopkins which I dont, but I think a slick boxer with movement would trouble the hell out of Kovalev. A large version of Lara would really frustrate Kovalev. As for GGG, a slick fighter with movement is what he likes, if you havenet noticed, he keeps fighters that move at the end of his punches, the way you beat GGG is standing in front of him in the middle of the ring, either ****ing it out (infighting) or making him miss center ring and countering like SweetPea Whittaker did to Chavez Sr.

The difference between Kovalev and GGG is that there is no Ward/GGG type of scenario waiting in the wings for Kovalev in the Cruiserweight division.

It's a wasteland of a division (Cruiser that is) and being the Undisputed Light-heavyweight Champion is the place to be.

Kovalev is just better than GGG. I'm not sure why HBO hasn't given him the same hype. Maybe because GGG is a better looking guy? Kovalev seems just as charismatic. He's got all the tools in the ring. The way he managed the distance against Hopkins was very impressive. The way he took Pascal's onslaught and still knocked him out was as well.

Loooool. Did you just really bring up sparring to prove GGG is a better fighter? Wow!!!
