This is from the interview shortly after the fight.

The Scene on damage control for the Pacman.

      So what else is new?

I'm gonna catch a lot of **** for this but here it goes anyway. I honestly believe that Mayweather in his heart of hearts thought he truly could make 44 because he never had a problem getting down to that weight before he was coming off a lay-off but probably didn't think much of it. He was a little older than he was prior to the lay off and for the first time in his career his body wouldn't cooperate in making the weight. Once he realized what he would have to go through to get down to 44 and I believe he could have had he really tried, I don't think he wanted to take the risk in being drained and losing as a result of it, Marquez is not the kind of guy you want to go in against if you're not 100%

He coughed up the dough 600k, which was a substatial amount of money even if Floyd got 10M for this fight once you take away taxes, trainer fee, manager, GBP's cut, etc... it was probably about 10% of his purse. He made the decision to pay outside of the ring rather than in the ring... If he loses that fight its over! The mystique, the aura, all of that is gone.

Was it a crappy situation? Yes! Did I believe he did it intentionally? No! Marquez would've taken a Mayweather fight @146 anyway. No one is in a position to turn down a Mayweather fight not then and definitely not now.
If Floyd wanted to he could leverage his status against his opponents a lot more if he wanted too and he hasn't (- Canelo,Marquez)... I can think of another fighter who has made a career out of it.

It wouldn't have made a difference but I can certainly sympathize with Marquez on all of that.

Floyd was bigger, faster and craftier in that fight. He only made that fight to send a message to Manny. He knocked Marquez down in the 2nd round and dominated the entire fight. Definitely a classic example of a time he likely could have pressed down for a stoppage win but instead did the whole Floyd "thing."

            You could be right.....

But imho, I dont think Mayweather even tried to make 144.

He paid an insurance premium, to avoid the situation entirely.

            I agree that.....
            1) the weight did not affect the outcome in that fight
            2) catchweights are shht, and should be abolished. Marquez ADMITTED that the catchweight was intended to "diminish" Mayweather (diminish, is the word that Marquez used)

But regardless, it was still a b1tch-move by Mayweather imho.

That fight should have been at 147..... and if the welterweight limit is not suitable for JMM..... then if you dont like the heat, you get out of the kitchen.
