When I read it might be 157 I was disappointed, because it's crap. He's a better fighter than Geale and he should win regardless, the size shouldn't even be an issue. I'm not going to go crazy though, I didn't give Manny or Floyd that much **** for draining Cotto and Canelo.

I've always said if the fighters agree to a weight who cares, it's agreed upon. Draining someone 3 pounds in their own division, when you're the champ is crap. His stock takes a hit here, I'm not going to break his balls as much as other people though and because he's still fighting a MW and for the title in the MW division. If this was something like Danny/Lamont issues then I'd be grilling him but all things aside if the CW is the worst thing he's doing... it could be worse.

I wasn't even thinking in terms of Gaele being drained. I was thinking in terms of just the optics of him fighting a guy who GGG got rid of rather easily.

Most already think he is inferior to and afraid to fight GGG. A UD win in a tough fight likely strengthens that narrative.

The fight is fine given Cotto was allowed an optional.

If so it should NOT be a 160lb Title Fight!!!!!
Who they hell are these azzholes to rewrite what a title limit is?
          It's at 160lbs and 12 rounds 3 minute rounds!!!
This catchweight **** has to stop in Title Fights!!!
          It's ridiculous and its WRONG!!!!
Sick and tired of the primadonna's insisting on covering their chicken azzes in Title Bouts!

Why do the real boxing fans put up with this garbage!

Boycott the Bout, favorite fighter or not its WRONG!!!

You want to fight at a "catchweight" fine, go 10 rounds no Title on the line!!!

Him not taking the fight @ 160 makes me certain now that he will NOT fight GGG and will just vacate , this coudlve been a semi tuneup for him , fighthing a real MW @160 wouldve given him a real test on his ability to compete at the weight , as everyone else stated and now i agree 100% , he just wants to hold the title as long as possible so he can make the Floyd/Pac fight (he assumes and probably is correct that WBC will give him the option to fight either one of them if he can while shoving the middle finger up GGG ass)

If it's a tough fight, maybe. But I don't think anything Cotto does will make anyone think he beats GGG. It would take GGG looking bad against someone for people to think that.

You have a point. But Cotto wants to look good going into his next fight, be it Canelo or GGG. even though I think a guy winning a tougher than expected fight deserves credit, A tough UD against Gaele will make not make Cotto look good.

I disagree, GGG could struggle with Monroe and still beat him. Then Cotto could fight Monroe and KO him in three rounds and it would not diminish GGG's win. This is boxing a fighter could have a bad night for what ever reason, styles may not mesh well or someone could just land a lucky punch. The only way your theory would apply would be if Geal was a fighter with 10 loses on his record and a cab driver sought of speak. Just MHO

It would seem that based on the developments of the past few days, that Canelo is the only hope of the middleweight lineage not being broken.

I'd bet dinner that part of the negotiations involving Cotto-Canelo (which HBO required as a condition to doing the Geale fight) also involves a step-aside deal for GGG.

In theory one would hope that GGG would not accept step-aside money, but there really is no reason for him not to. He isnt going to get Cotto in the ring anyways, so why not at least pocket a few bucks? The only hope of preserving middleweight lineage is that either Geale beats Cotto (unlikely, especially dried up to 157) or that Canelo does in the fall. Because if Cotto beats Canelo there is no way he fights GGG. He would vacate, thus breaking the lineage.

Of course this is all speculation on my part. Who knows how it will eventually play out. The only listed source so far for the June 6th-HBO announcement has been a paper called El Vocero. So who knows.....

I don't get the outrage, it's not even that bad of a fight.
