The problem with Marquez he still wants to fight after that great win vs Manny. So he fought Bradley and got beat. If Manny wins he might get lured to fight Manny again.... His knee might give in during the fight and its dangerous to his health. Retire now or be sorry later... just my opinion.

According to longtime trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, 41-years-old, will announce his retirement in the near future.

Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) has been dealing with an injured right knee for the last year. The injury first came about in early 2014 and he still went forward with a planned fight against Mike Alvarado last May, which the Mexican veteran won with a wide twelve round unanimous decision. That was the last time Marquez entered the ring.

As the months continued, the injury to his knee became worse and he was forced to push back a planned return last fall.

Nacho indicates that his fighter is still dealing with the issue and there appears to be no relief in sight.

His time at 140 and above is totally overated.. and full of question marks. But he was a great fighter at 126, 130 and 135.

At 140, he has wins over Likar Ramos and Fedchenko.
At 147, he lost to Mayweather. PAC-JMM 3. Win in Pac-JMM 4. Lost to Bradley.
Win over Alvarado at catchweight 143.

LOL... totally overated. And along the way he ducked Provodnikov, Guerrero, Khan.

He ducked Guerrero who was his mandatory and instead fought Likar Ramos.
He ducked Amir Khan for the chance at 4th title in 4 weight divisions and instead rematched Juan Diaz.
He clearly ducked Provodnikov to face Alvarado who Provo beatdown.

I was a big fan of his at 126, 130, 135...but after that he became a blatant ducker, not taking the best possible fights, taking stay busy fights, and being the 1st to hire Memo... also I hated his whining after the Bradley fight.

I don't understand why he gets a pass for fighting Ramos and Fedchenko when clearly better opposition was available.

Take away Pac and Barrera from his resume and what do you have?

But you can't. I keep seeing this all the time. "Take away his best wins and fights then blah blah blah", i don't get it, you can't take them away, he did win/fought them, and were great victories, that's reality, it's done, written in ink.

I don't get some of these arguments. "If you take away all his fights against Pacquiao and Barrera" that's 5 fights total. 5 FIGHTS!, take any fighters top 5 fights and they don't look so good either, so whats the point in even saying it.

The point I was making his level of competition he faced isn't all that great. Even Barrera was a bit past-prime. JMM's handlers did a poor job managing...or maybe they were brilliant matchmaking him.

I just got turned off that he was given a pass by fighting Ramos and Fedchenko and clearly ducking Guerrero, Khan, and Provodnikov. Combine this with all the whining over the years,...that has left me unimpressed when I look at the big picture.

I still believe prime for prime Morales and Barrera beat JMM at featherweight. JMM beat them in ability to move up weight successfully and longevity. But at their prime weights, they both beat JMM.
Same thing with Pac,..I look at Pac-JMM2 as the fight closest to their prime. And I had Pac winning that one. But yea I acknowledge, it was extremely close.

There's nothing left for him. Should have retired after the Bradley fight. He made a good account for himself, as he was chasing history that night. Didn't happen and he has nothing to be ashamed of. He's had a great, HOF career.
