Was Lucian Bute damaged goods when he fought Pascal?

Before the fight against Froch Bute was considered to be the biggest threat to Ward. Had he fought Pascal at that time Bute would've been a big favorite.....

Do you think that version of Bute would have beaten Pascal? Or was Bute never THAT good to begin with and Froch showed us the real Bute when he's up against the very best?

    Just an over-hyped boxer?

Well, my problem was that Magee, Johnson, Miranda, Andrade was not cutting it. His best recent win was Johnson coming off a loss to Froch. I wanted Bute to fight some one at least Ward had already fought, a top guy like Froch, Kessler, or Abraham. And then set up a fight between them if he won. Beating Froch was his chance to really be seen as a threat to Ward. I even thought he would decision Froch and set up a super fight with Ward. That failed miserably, but oh well. He does not belong in the top level. So far he hasn't shown he can beat a top level fighter at the top of their game, except his win over Bika.

So no he was not damaged goods, we've seen him get destroyed and nearly lose against journeyman Andrade in just one round, and almost lose to Grachev. Looks like that style just gives him fits. That come forward, iron chinned style. Remember, he got Andrade with a bodyshot, not a head shot.

Bute was never good to begin with, a good protected investment, but as a fighter he was mediocre. I mean he had a good run made tons of money given by the crowds he gathered, but he was Romanian Jurgen Brahmer. Tell me before his loss to Froch whom did he ever beat? A fellow contender in Bika, but then out of his 9 IBF SMW title defenses what name stands out? Ancient Glen Johnson?

He could've been sealed or damaged goods, result would've been the same.

If you watch his old fights he was always a deer in the head lights when a fighter came in, very few could get in range to connect because of his power. He also fought a low quality of competition, his best win was over Johnson who was past his prime, even Froch said so in his fight with him 5 months earlier.

Bute also had experience from sparring Johnson, so he was heavily prepared. Johnson looked to just survive out there and earn a paycheck, wasn't aggressive as he usually was.

Once he stepped up in quality (Froch), he got KTFO because his style did not work against elite fighters. He changed his style and is no longer as reckless, making his offense heavily suffer, changing him as a fighter.

Bute knows he'd get KO'd if he tried to fight Pascal like he fought his lower class competition.

I will laugh if he beats Stevenson and I can genuinely see it happening.

He lacks some intangibles but Bute is a good pure boxer, probably a level above Stevenson in that respect.

He is shot to the point of no recovery.

                  Yes.

You don't take the type of beating that Bute took from Froch and just come back the same. That was a confident, undefeated fighter and Froch utterly brutalized him for 5 rounds.

He was damaged goods with zero confidence when he got in with Pascal. Pascal beating him was the easiest good-odds bet I've ever come across.

He was good enough that Ward was ducking him.
