Before the Froch/Groves rivalry grabbed everybody's attention, Khan was better known than Froch amongst the general public in the UK.
The British public love Olympic medal winners, and we didn't have too many at the Athens games.
Khan was a real celebrity for a while. Everybody seemed to like him. His last amateur fight, a specially arranged event against Kindelan, who beat him in the Olympic final, was broadcast live on national TV and got a lot of viewers.

Well, Amir, whatever Roach is attempting to do to sabotage your Mayweather shot, it pales in comparison to your strategy of fighting infrequently, fighting weaker opponents, and failing to seek fights with those who have already knocked you out.

It’s just personal opinion and difficult to verify, especially given that we’re both boxing fans so know more than the general public.

He was very celebrated as the Olympic poster boy and his pro career launched to much fanfare, but an increasing lack of terrestrial TV coverage means less cross over appeal. It’s hard to say at what point Froch surpassed Khan in the mainstream, but as it stands Froch filled Wembley and Khan hasn’t produced anything similar.

Khan vs. Manny in sparring is debatable. Roach always hypes his fighters, then his words turn around and bite him. But here is one thing that is not debatable, Bradley ducked Khan:

After a stay-sharp defense back home in England in April, Khan returned to the United States and was determined to fight the best fighter the division had to offer.

He was supposed to face two-belt titleholder Timothy Bradley Jr., but Bradley had a change of heart and declined the fight despite a generous 50-50 offer from Khan -- including 50 percent of British television money, an almost unheard of concession. That's how much Khan wanted to fight the one 140-pounder widely ranked ahead of him.

khan deserves the fight if he beats devon (at least as much as Maidana deserved 2 shots...) but man he's terrible at hyping. He acts like a starstruck beggar whos just waiting by his phone for the big call.

So? That doesn't change who is the most famous and that would be Khan. He's been a household name in the UK since he was a teenager in the Olympic games.

The only person anyone needs to feel sorry about is you!

900 posts since, 2007, yet very active, but only on Khan threads. Makes me wonder if that's the only time you ever log in.
