In retrospect, I probably whiffed not including Gavilan and Williams. Lot of great fighters.

Cliff Rold's clearly the most knowledgeable historian out of the bunch.

Great list, sir. As a long time Boxingscene member I'd like to say it's been a pleasure reading all of your stuff. Keep up the great work.

Funny that the guys who have been killing Cliff for having Floyd as #1 p4p now celebrate him simply because he has Manny ahead of Floyd on his list.

I have no idea why Mayweather could be on that list! He is a counter move/ counter punch boxer whose lack of volume punching and power should eliminate him. Fighters like Salador Sanchez should rate high above him. Carmen Basilio and Kid Gavelin would destroy him. He is not a top ten welter and that eliminastes from a top twenty list involving all weight divisions.
Bernard Hopkins is another one not in an ATG category, because 102 years old and still boxing commendable but he just got shut out by a guy with 22 fights!
Roy Jones is a talent and entertainer but at 160 he has no work load and at 175 theres more than a few guys who will give him hell!

When this type of list is organized to many deserving men are left off!!
        no.#1--Sugar Ray Robinson
the rest are in second place!
WOW no Wlad or Vitali??? Theres a few "brown nosers" that will be cryin'!

If anything looking at that list they compiled it looks like a load of rubbish, there are names that should be on it but then there are names on it for the sake of trying to come across elitist.

I've used the example before and I'll use it again, football players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard they all are great footballers they'd fit into any era and they'd likely be ahead of the past eras best footballers, as time goes on things improve.
Facilities get much better, players become more skillful, faster, stronger I could go onto a football forum and say Ron Harris is the best CB ever and he makes the current best look like crap but we all know that is a lie.

These lists are just facilitated to make the past generation look better and these historians are the most biased bunch about.
          That's absolutely not true.

You obviously don't know **** about football.

Messi and Ronaldo are great players, but they could have never played as they do now in the past.

The game has changed hugely, now the physical contact is minimum, you can get a red card much more easily.

Back in the 80's and for most of the 90's the game was much slower and based on man marking. If you constantly tried all those fancy dribblings and passes back then, you'd be very likely leave the field on a stretcher after their central defender beated the **** out of you on and off the ball.

There also weren't so many cameras and nasty things would happen, especially if you tried those fancy tricks.

I pitch in lists like this and do what everyone else does...second guess most of it and have it slightly different the next time they ask.

I do my best and thanks for the kind words. There were others pitching in who can probably bury me on some of this stuff. I have strong knowledge in spots, weak spots like anyone where I'm always learning something new.

you can tell when someone is a fan boy and when they are serious about the sport.. duran at #4 based on what no mas manny at #14 based on what again getting koed cold by marquez..the ring list is garbage but this is even worse.. without criteria to establish what you put out many great fighters will get left out and the writers will choose there fav fighters regardless of whether they deserve it or not.

                the criteria i used was:
                1. championship fighters defeated
                2. reign of championship run

                1. Sugar Ray Robinson

                2. Henry Armstong

                3. Muhammad Ali

                4. Ezzard Charles

                5. Sam langford

                6. Archie Moore

                7. Floyd mayweather jr

                8. Bernard hopkins

                9. Pernell Whitaker

                10. Joe Louis

                11. Roy Jones Jr.

                12. lennox lewis

                13. marvin hagler

                14. Evander holyfield

                15. charley burley

                16. bob foster

                17. Eder Jofre

                18. thomas hearns

                20. julio caesar chavez sr.
