Comments Thread For: Gamboa Dropping Back To 130-Pounds, Says Adviser

Former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16KOs) is dropping back down in weight, according to his legal adviser Tony Gonzalez. Gamboa tried his hand in the lightweight division last Saturday night, when he challenged WBO champion Terence Crawford. After looking very good in the first four rounds, Gamboa was dropped four times and stopped in the ninth round. Some felt, including Crawford himself, that Gamboa was too small for the weight. When he entered the ring, Crawford rehydrated to a weight of 152-pounds.

I really don't know with Gamboa. I hate to say it, but he seems like a hype job and not just because of this loss. His defense is terrible. His chin is terrible. Everything else he does well...but those two things are probably the two most important things in boxing..unfortunately he's lacking in them...

I'd like to see how his body looks when he drops down in weight. I've hardly seen boxers be better after dropping down in weight...it's generally worse...

A little late for this. Gamboa's career has been rickety ever since the Rios debacle. It's been mishandled and mangled. What a waste of talent. Yuri has to fight like four times a year or something. That Crawford fight was his third fight in as many years. He should've easily been into his ninth fight.

What does 50 think of that? 50 should have the final say on any Gamboa moves

Well he has always been chinny and had been dropped many times before he fought TC, but had always gotten up to win. Sure he has a shaky chin and no defence since he relies on his athleticism to evade punches but you can't count him out since he does have power and hand speed. He has faced and beaten the likes of Michael Farenas, Ponce De Leon, Solis, Salido, and Roger Matgwa which are all good names on anyones resume. Plus, dropping down would benefit since his body frame and height just doesn't fit him for 135. I'm sure he will be a top contender or even champion someday at 130 with his assets, that's if he remains active enough. Big fights await Gamboa and his fan friendly style at 130 and we are all in for a treat!

If he can make it safely, then I'm all for it. We'll just have to wait and see. I don't get why people are jumping to conclusions at this point. For all we know he's gonna terrorize the division, OR, TC ruined him.

              Let's just wait and see.

Good move. But this is only one of many changes that needs to be made in his part.

After barely being a lightweight and getting beaten up by a junior middleweight I can see him moving down
