Where has this come from? He's not a good boxer. People think of him as this guy with great skills, slick defense, speed, awesome footwork, yet he has very little of any of that stuff.
His speed is ok, pretty standard in fact.
His footwork is very straight forward and basic, absolutely nothing special. A lot of it actually hinders him, rather than helps and he rarely uses it to set guys up well.
His jab is decent, not great, not even that good. It's decent.
His defense is ****e.
His overall skills are lacking and his technique a bit ****e.
He has been outboxed a lot over his career. He's not a guy, like I've seen written many, many, many times, that would be a great of this era if he had power.
So, where did this myth come from? It couldn't have come from his fights, because he's been outboxed a lot and if people had seen most of his fights, they'd understand that he's gotten by on volume and very basic boxing offense and just being a bit better than the ****ty contenders he's mostly beaten. He's been outfought, outboxed, and outsmarted and if he was a good boxer, he would never have had the trouble with all the mediocre contenders that he's always struggled to beat. He would have clearly beaten many of the guys he's fought and done much better against the guys he's lost to if he had all these skills that people say of him.
