Since when has Cotto been faster or more skilled than Martinez?

Since... forever. It's obvious you know nothing about boxing... Martinez is fighting guys who are 175+ pounds, of course he is going to be faster than those guys because he is smaller than them. He has faster combinations than Martinez throws and he is certainly faster on his feet, ESPECIALLY after 2 knee surgeries.

I agree with you here. I use to say this back in the day and people would get extremely butt hurt about it. Williams was never that great.

Non the less though I disagree with you on how good Martinez is. He beat a lot of top 10 guy in the division following his win over Williams. Dzinziruk was the number 1 guy at 54 at the time, and Martinez embarrassed him. Macklin, Chavez, Murray all were ranked in the top 10 when he beat them.
He may not be the best middleweight ever, but he does posses great skill, punching power and stamina. All these attributes are good enough to beat a very faded Cotto. Let us not forget that Cotto is past his prime.

I was referring to guys top 10 P4P not in their division. The fact is the Euro's he has been facing are nowhere near the opposition that Cotto has faced. I'm done with this thread, people will be shocked at how bad Martinez will look. The ignorance is strong with Boxingscene today. Martinez is not some great figher, seriously where do you people come up with this ****? He lost his last fight against a guy who didn't jab, just walked in with his hands up and nothing else. He was dropped in that fight, dropped in the Chavez fight, dropped in every fight prior up to the first Williams fight. His defense is sloppy, he is very easy to hit and he is actually pretty easy to drop.

Cotto will have the speed advantage in this fight, period. You "know it all" type guys can say otherwise but Sergio is fast compared to 180+ pounders, Cotto was keeping up with guys at 140 and 147. He'll cut off the ring on the slower Martinez and Sergio backs straight up into the ropes, not to metion Cotto is a far smarter fight than Sergio. He started younger and had a prestine amateur career. All that being said, it's still a close fight as Sergio isn't a bad fighter and again he is the bigger man and Cotto doesn't not have the chin. But, skills pay the bills and Cotto is a much better all around boxer/fighter than Sergio.

A superb technical fighter... Are you serious, where did that technical aspect come when he lost to Trout, Margarito, Pacman? Two of those fighter with Superb technical skills wouldn't have lost. Cotto is past his prime and has yet to impress me since Mosely. Marteniz may fight with his hands down but the man doesn't use hooks but straights and jabs that don't leave you open as much as a hook.

Marteniz will get a quite easy KO in middle to late rounds if Freddie doesn't throw in White Towel!!!!

Now this is a man with some sense. Cotto is not a better boxer than Martinez and he damn sure ain't faster. Cotto is going into this fight with no advantage with exception of his age. On a pfp level, Martinez and Cotto are similarly skilled. However this fight is against an averaged sized welterweight and a big jr middleweight/ middleweight. Martinez is simply the bigger man with compatible skill.

It's not like Cotto is on a different/higher level than Martinez. If it were a smaller fighter with twice the skill against a big truck, then you could say Cotto had a very good chance. But it's not, it's similar skill and a huge size difference.
