I'm more worried about the impending Canelo fight for the winner. Cotto's path has been on a collision course with the Irishman for awhile now. I have to believe it'll be Oscar's opportunity to crown his young cash cow as the lineal champ at 160. It's a smart play..

On june 7th we'll have a new lineal middleweight champ. It's ok to think martinez is going to win. It's idiotic to act like cotto's only chance is for martinez to be shot or injured. Cotto is too good a fighter to be given so little chance by all you experts of nought.

I like that both Cotto and Martinez have started camp fairly early compared to normal. They've already been in full effect with their coaches for almost a month now, it seems.

"In Beast Mode"? WTF does that even mean? Cotto is betting Serge is older than him. That is all.
Look up my posts. I'm a Cotto stan and saying this...

As far as this fight goes I think Cotto looked at the big bag of money and was willing to bet that he might be able to win through some combination Martinez being rusty, his legs being done betraying his athletic style, or him gassing in the middle to later portions of the fight. It's not a bad bet, really, especially if Cotto himself is feeling OK.

And all the better this is not the blind arrogance of youth, but the calculations of a grown man fully aware of the risk.
Better yet this is true on both sides of the fence.
Chess not checkers, right?

No matter if Cotto is more skilled and better boxer than Williams, Pavlik and Chavez Jr. The three of them would destroy Cotto in a middleweight fight. Cotto is not a big threat at 160 lbs.
He is a great welterweight but has no business at 160 lbs. Martinez had faced better opposition and won. It's clear than Cotto has taken this fight because he thinks, like a lot of people including me, that Martinez is shot.

This.
The real intrigue about this world title fight is whether the champion or the challenger is more depleted and diminished from his respective prime. Whoever has more left in the tank and utilizes what he has left more effectively hould win it in my view - could honestly go either way. I feel this is the opportunity that Mayweather should have snatched up because Sergio looks ready to go ala Chris John.
