I agree. No way does Cotto chase Martinez at the peak of his powers. Not to say that Cotto is a coward or a cherry picker; he's just smart. With his age and injuries, though, Maravilla is clearly past his prime. It came upon him overnight it seems, but I don't think he can turn it back. Cotto knows this very well and knows he has a shot. I think Maravilla will look good in spurts, but I see Cotto being poised and ready to go 12 good rounds. Martinez will tire and Cotto will surge ahead. I see a clean decision win or an injury stoppage for Cotto.

Unless Sergio is like 50% of his former self, he should win this fight going away. No knock to Cotto but he already maxed out at 154 so 160 is just too much. Props for pushing himself though. His resume is incredible.

The only question is whether Martinez can be 100%...but even not at his best he takes IMO, It's not like Cotto is at his prime either, he will be slower, the smaller fighter. He has better technique, but Martinez is not a brawler. Gotta respect Cotto for stepping up, but he's only fighting Martinez because he feels he's gonna catch him at the right time. We will see.

Listen anything less than a 100% Sergio Martinez gives my boy Cotto a
great shot at making history and just like Cotto said: You better be in great shape because I will be.. WAR COTTO..

I don't know. Martinez's depends as much on his rhythm and timing as he does his conditioning. He may have enough time to get in decent physical shape, but if he has truly been out of any ring for this long, it will show come fight night. Cotto is way too seasoned of a fighter to get handled by a B-level version of Maravilla.

Cotto has better footwork than all of Sergio's last 4 opponents combined.

If Sergio is in anyway hobbled from the surgery, this will be an easy night for Cotto.

This fight will remind everyone of the Carlos Monzon vs Jose Angel Mantequilla Napoles in the late 70's

Cotto it's not that good of a defensive fighter, he always gets hit too much and Martinez has the style to paly with him.

My pops go to Cotto for trying to beat a bigger name, but on this one he is over his head!

I actually am more afraid for Cotto if Martinez's knee/legs ARENT as mobile. If Martinez HAS to fight or has to come forward even an unhealthy Martinez will crush him... We've seen it time and time again. The worst thing the opposition has done is make Sergio stand his ground and fight. Its literally never ended well

Cotto's best chance is Martinez's reflexes AND legs being completely gone...and handspeed and breaks his hands (though that doesnt seem to stop him...).

This matchup is honestly a little worrying for Cotto. It also is for Martinez because we dont know whats left... But if there IS some left no way Cotto gets a premier fight again...
