Comments Thread For: Ward-Rodriguez: Rules Issue Places Fight in Jeopardy

krikya360.com has obtained a letter that was issued to the World Boxing Association. The letter was sent by Josh Dubin, the attorney for WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward. A serious issue has come up with respect to the penalty being paid by tonight's opponent Edwin Rodriguez.

Rodriguez (24-0, 16KOs) was set to challenge Ward (26-0, 14KOs) for the WBA super middleweight championship. However, he was unable to make the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds at Friday's weigh-in. Rodriguez came in at two-pounds over, at 170-pounds, while Ward easily made weight at 167.8-pounds.

This isn't a good look if this fight falls through.

Let it go for now and figure it out afterwards. Ward's been out of the ring long enough, he needs to get back in the ring and get back to his business.

See, I told you Ward was a bum and an overrated hype-job phoney. He was scared of Rodriguez and agreed to the compromise yesterday. Now he is trying to weasel his way out of the fight. Never fights out of his backyard, makes champions move down in weight to fight him, and has to have every single advantage imaginable.

Rodriguez came in over the limit....you guys reached an agreement already. You should have acted upon the rules yesterday....it goes to show that you didn't know the rules to begin with or you would not have agreed to a different compensatory amount.

The dude will likely be drained anyway because he didn't prepare properly, you are supposed to be P4P#2 or at least that's what the majority of people think, and you should be able to easily beat him any way. You are scared and trying to take the easy way out....phoney ass dude.

P4P fluke....5 decent fights over guys who already had losses..........guess he was too worried about facing a legit undefeated threat. Never even faced an undefeated guy above scrub level in your entire career.

Forget that bum already, HBO should deny any such request and force him to fight or tell him they will blackball him from their network forever.......force him to face someone else's demands for once.

What does it have to do with the WBA if the title is not on the line?

Also, Ward does not want the fight now? this is so annoying.

It's often difficult to understand how the system works in some states of the US. On some issues, it's the local commisions rules that apply, which ensures local judges and referee, and in other cases it's the sanctioning body.

It reads like Ward is trying to get 45% of Rodriguez's purse or he won't fight.
