Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Rejects The Idea of Chavez Jr. Rematch

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has no interest in a rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., acccording to the champion's manager Sampson Lewkowicz.

Last September in Las Vegas, Martinez dominated Chavez through eleven rounds, but saw himself hurt and put down in the twelfth. He won a one-sided decision to capture Chavez's title. After that match, Chavez tested positive for marijuana and saw himself suspended for several months.

Chavez returned last Saturday in California and won a controversial ten round decison over Bryan Vera. Chavez had planned to return as a super middleweight but he was unable to make the weight and the parties were forced to increase the limit to 173-pounds. [Click Here To Read More]

    Martinez is G!
He went from nothing in the boxing world, losing dubious decisions, fighting outside of his preferred weight class, being ducked, to being the champ on the p4p list and now shutting down fighters who treat the sport with such disrespect. I really like this guys story.

He's ducking a rematch, but he's 100% right. Chavez wouldn't make the weight and he doesn't deserve it either, but I think Jr would win the rematch. He'd get beat the **** up again but Sergio would breakdown this time.

Immediately after the fight, I was very interested in a rematch. And I would have picked Jr to win. But after all the bull**** that's gone on on both sides, I have ZERO interest in it now. I'd much rather see Martinez either cash out in a Mayweather clash or go ahead and pass the torch to GGG. As for Jr, its clear he's a super middleweight at this point. Sakio Bika makes a lotta sense to me. He can snatch up a belt and set up a big fight with Ward. He will be soundly beaten and hopefully goes away forever.
