Berto has average defense and Broner is slightly better. He is FAR more compared to Berto's style with slightly better defense than compared to the great Toney. Anyone can have decent defense when it is not ATG's throwing punches at you. Till then, he is a Berto knock off. He will either fit moniker and will ONLY lose it if he can show a so called "tremendous defense" against great fighters and that is why his name does not belong in with an ATG like Toney. Till he shows it IF he has it, he does not get compared to Toney in any way.

Maidana will be dangerous don't get me wrong, but you need ring smarts to beat Broner. Maidana is smart, but not on the fly. He will look to trade, fight dirty, use the jab, and go to the body. Smart. What he won't do. Change up his style. He can't. He won't follow his game plan to beat a formidable foe.

Same thing has happened to Broner that happened to Berto, only difference is that Berto has been hit by better opponents, by a significant margin.

Broner is simply the better boxer.
All of these people are picking Maidana because they don't "like" Broner just like how they picked Matthysse because they didn't "like" Danny's father, Angel Garcia.
Not liking someone based on their public persona is just flat out ****** since we really don't KNOW any of these fighters.

Simple - put up a poll on who Broner reminds you more of, former champ Andre Berto or All time great James Toney. Hands down it will be Berto. Doesn't mean he is exactly like Berto but a hello of a lot more than Toney whose defense came against a ton of great fighters, not what Broner has been fighting. Floyd and a Welterweight version of Toney would make Broners defense look like SHT. It's now how good a defense looks against lower comp, its how it looks against great fighters.

Berto was no easier to hit by Collazo than Broner was against Pauli and Reese in those first few rounds. Broner gets the Berto moniker till he shows he can do it at the highest level like Toney did. In other words, Broner is much closer to typical than he is to genius. No one is saying he is exactly like Berto but THAT is the fighter he compares to long before anyone mentions him in the same breath as an ATG.....which is really pushing it!
When Berto fought Collazo, his head was getting ****ed back in some of his shots. Paulie nor Rees have ever hurt or stunned Broner. Berto has been dropped, rocked and KO'd. Broner on the other hand has never been in any of those situations.

I like Berto but his style is nothing like Broners until he started imitating it his last 2 fights which got him his ass handed it to him. Broner uses the shoulder roll/defensive style for sometime now, not something he picked up 2 fights ago like Berto.

Toney is an exceptional fighter but it doesnt mean Broner doesnt fight like him. He does, just not at his level thats all. Sorry I just dont see any comparison between Berto and Broner outside of their quick hands.

Maidana can have the whole world behind him and its not going to help him against a fighter as great as Broner.

Why is this a broner berto thread now lol. Broner has way more skills than berto especially a 23 yr old broner vs 23 yr old berto

Sad that the dumbass (Maidana) had to reduce it to that.

                      Surely its offensive versus defensive?

                      Up and comer vs Veteran?
