Comments Thread For: Canelo's Trainer Explains Mayweather Catch-Weight Deal

Chepo Reynoso, the manager and trainer for WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs), gives a lot of credit to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer for working day and night to finalize a deal that matches Canelo against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In a recent article on krikya360.com, Canelo stated that both sides budged a little on the weight.

The two sides agreed on a catch-weight of 152-pounds, but Reynoso says it wasn't easy.

So where did the "147 or not fight" talk come from?

And it says he initially wanted 147 before that. That's what I call a Catchweight King.

Very...maybe more to it or they both played the weight game high/low to meet in the middle.

Perhaps the initial part of the discussions which began at 147, then 150, then settled at 152. All below 154 I might add.

That wouldnt be a catchweight. It would be for Floyd's WW title. No way Canelo makes it anywhere close to 147. That's just game.
