I've seen Floyd for a long time, can't understand how people actually become fans of him or his persona. If you look close and pay attention the guy has never actually fought a real threat, the fights he was supposed to take he took them when they really didn't make much sense. Retiring when the division is at its hottest moment or pricing yourself out of fights or making opponent move up weight classes that's Floyd smooth style.

        what yall think?
I think floyds fans like him because he is a great boxer and because he is the best of his generation. His persona has nothing to do with it. The people who criticize his persona dont care when a carl froch or a brandon rios shows "persona".

Froch doesn't brag about money constantly, get involved in countless idiotic problems out of the ring or anything of the sort.

Froch just fights the best and has some top quality trash talk...and intelligence.

Rios is much more like Mayweather, he is another I dislike out of the ring.

In the ring, Mayweather is faultless though.

floyd's trash talk is done for his base fans as is froch's and rios'. while I respect your opinion its common that posters dont have a problem when a guy they like does the same thing as a fighter they dont. Like you they quantify it as "intelligent" trash talk. I think we can both agree all of carl's talk isnt intelligent.

His fans would identify with his wannabe persona, so yeah, they would like him anyway.

He had fans even before he adopted the persona. I've always been a fan, the guy can fight. Regardless of if you like his braggadocios nature, he's still one of the most skilled boxers of the past 20 years. That's a valid reason enough to be a fan of him. Plus, his persona love it or hate it makes him interesting enough for people to actually garner a reaction. There are plenty of other boxers who are super talented, but they're personalities are so boring, it's hard for them to gain popularity (and the big money fights). As they say in business, the worst thing you can be in marketing is boring. It's working for him, so I say more power to him.

On a sidenote, I believe once he hangs them up for good and doesn't have the pressure of having to compete anymore, we'll see a different Floyd Mayweather. I'm talking about 5-10 years after he hangs them up. I always appreciate seeing the greats after they're done and reflecting back on their active years.

I'm a fan for what he does in the ring. Don't give 2 **** asses what he does out of it & that goes for any fighter that I follow.

Honestly, I think he got more fans when he made racist comments and tried to act like he was being under attack all the time. The people that love him, probably share his feelings of being under attack all the time. It's pretty damn immature if you ask me, but whatever. I follow fighters who take risks. Fraud Jr. would never be in my P4P risk taker list.

People who like the way Floyd acts are lost in a cultural fraud! The "gansta" actors and singers who have made it live in Beverly Hills or Malibo their not in the old hood and they suddenly know how to speak like a man does, not a punk azz kid!! Floyds in a pretty nce "crib" in Vegas right?
We've all seen videos of theis guy speaking like a man and giving a helping hand to those in need but for some reason he won't put the sport on his back and walk out of the "hood" with it. My best guess is he thinks those followers are the hard core thats easiest to relate to and easiest to get over on, I don't think he has the confidence to join a more professional group and take on a corporate profile.
It gets pretty old listening to this guy act the way he does, waiting for him to grow up has become a bore, just like his boxing style. Ray.
