if he fights top fighters it will be a much more impressive feat at welterweight.
"duck" lucas matthysse to fight floyd mayweather?
rly?
now, if he goes to 147 and gets he andre berto three year tour of duty (bums for a couple million a pop, 2-3 times a year,) then i will start to complain. if he fights good WW it's a more impressive feat to "duck" the 140 lb weight class, not a less impressive one.
shane mosley jumped to 147 to fight oscar de la hoya. he wanted that payday, but he thought he could win and be the champion at 147. he ended up getting the best win of his career.
The talk is he might jump to fight Malignaggi. That's a horrible fight compared to Matthysse or Garcia or Peterson at 140. Add in that welterweight is much worse than 140, and the only guys who are better than the junior welterweights are guys Broner won't be fighting, and this would suck.

I hope he doesn't skip 140.
goldenboy has a real trump card with maglinaggi holding a welterweight alphabet title. to boot, paulie can sell. feather fists and all. dude is the perfect storm. that's obviously the direction you want to head if you're handling adrien broner.
welterweight overall has more difficult fights than 140 (discounting promotional or other problems that would keep fights from happening. we can talk about that later, because i think that's the real issue with a jump to 47 for broner.)
that should be a given, but i went through the top 10 of both divisions to verify, because i do believe that jr WW has the young and prime fighters compared to WW. after matthysse and garcia, the fights drop way off. rios lost to abril, lets be real about it. abril at 140 would be a nice fight, but he'll probably fight broner at 135. khan's chin exists. peterson god bodied by bradley, who fights at 47 now. his best win is khan, and he had pellets in his butt. super judah promotions? "shoulder roll" mike alvarado?
at 147, again discounting the fact that some of these fights would never happen (the same way the big figths won't happen at 140,) you've got pacquiao, mayweather, marquez, guerrero, and bradley. much better fighters.
i too would like to see him with garcia or matthysse. either will do. skipping 140 isn't cowardly, though, the way some of these posters are trying to portray it. that's silly to me.
Don't see a problem with going to 147 to try to do a belt grab against the "so called" easiest target champ, but stay there and defend it against legit fighters; and to the poster implying there is no one at 147; did Pac retire or something, what about JMM, Bradley, Berto, Ortiz, Guerrero would love to get in, and Thurman is always looking for a fight. If he does that (which his handlers probably wont allow) you gotta give him more credit for jumping 2 classes and fighting good fighters than fighting good fighters at 140
He wont skip 140 too many great fights to make although I cant see Golden Boy/Haymon putting Broner in with a killer like Matthysse but I didnt think they would put Canelo in with Trout either so idk
i can see floyd and broner scrapping if the money is good enough, and they've got no other options for big paydays. what's really keeping them from fighting?
money mayweather?
about billions?
right now it doesn't make monetary sense. down the line it may.
I think the style wouldn't make it an interesting fight, the names will. Same manager doesn't help, right now Broner would get schooled by Floyd, you can tell that Broner still hasn't mastered the philly shell, he's actually beating these guys with brute force and not finesse like his style is supposed to. But like you said, down the line it would make sense.
