I think Cotto would have put on his running shoes and escaped this time around.
Somehow Tony kept coming forward and looked like he was coming on, closed eyes and all lol..

Better question what would have happened if his eye closed in round 5 or 6 instead of round 2..

I still believe Tony should have had 1-2 more tune ups before that Cotto fight

He was thrown in there after serious major surgery and 1 fight in what? 2 years?

The fight would've gotten more dramatic and nail biting. It would've been one of those cases where fighter A is winning on the scorecards but fighter B is fresher stamina-wise. I posted shortly after that fight that while Cotto WAS tiring, it was nowhere near as bad as the first fight where Cotto didn't even have strength to lift his arms to defend himself in the 11th. I remember taking a look at the scorecards of the second fight and thinking: "Cotto could've flat out ran and lose the last 3 rounds 10-8 and he STILL would've won that fight." Margarito needed a miracle to win that fight considering his eye, inactivity, and hometown disadvantage. Personally, I think Margarito would've had his better moments in those rounds and probably won two of the last three, but still lost the fight by decision.

BTW, where's Mr. Fantastic? I miss that poster. Lol

Margs eye would be in a very bad shape, although Marg was getting to cotto if it were a 15 rounder I would see Cotto running. But 12 rounds Cotto had it in the bag.

Marg would have continued to take a beating. Without plaster he's nothing.

With his eye socket broken to that point it would have taken very little to completely rupture that eye. For Margarito's sake I'm glad the doc saved him from himself. He has a family and he's young. Regardless of winning or losing; he goes another 2 rounds, really damages the eye, then he can't get licensed anywhere anyway. So what's the point. Losing in 12 rounds still doesn't vindicate him from plaster gate.

Have you guys seen interviews of him? His eye is jacked up as is.

Cotto would have continued to embarass that cheating clown.

              Nothing more, nothing less.

This is a reflection of Sergio/Chavez Jr but worse.Pathetic to say Chavez Jr. did more then Margarito.

Margarito's Orbital would have been busted again, this time he would have walked away partially blind.

It was a good thing the fight was stopped.

Not even gonna lie I was talking to myself and just thinking it looks like Margarito might get to Cotto again here.

I think this is an easy one to be honest, and I'm someone who gives Margarito full credit for his win in the first fight.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that this would have gone any other way than Cotto closing the show in style. I would even go as far as to suggest that Cotto lays it on in the 12th once the finishing line is in sight.

Tony didn't beat Cotto in three rounds the first time around, he beat him in ten or eleven. He did the groundwork, and when he saw Cotto was weakening he devastated him in a small number of exchanges that ended the fight.

He hadn't done the groundwork this time, because this was a different Antonio Margarito and this was a much different Miguel Cotto. This was the Cotto that would successfully corner Floyd Mayweather Jr on multiple occasions a few months later, not the guy who couldn't stay out of Tony's way in 2008, despite ample evidence that this was a very bad idea.
