Just saw the Vitaly vs Bryd fight

Thanks to the boxingscene members I saw the bird vs Vitaly fight. I have read alot on Vitaly quitting and I always wrote it off as haters using it against vitaly. I watched the fight last night and it seemed to me that all the haters may have a point.

Vitaly fought for 6 rounds without any problems. He was beating byrd down. Then comes the 8th round. Byrd starts to pressure Vitaly. Vitaly doesnt like the pressure and backs up. Byrd is landing left hand leads at will. Vitaly tries to battle back but byrd takes the round. Then your hear something muttered in vitalys corner about a hert hand. Vitalys trainer says your fine and sends him out. The 9th round vitaly is throwing both hands with NO problem. Not even a sighn of pain on his face. Bad tape on byrds glove stops the fight for a moment, showing Vitaly leaning in the corner on the ropes. He looks tired but not hurt. The round resumes and byrd lays a beating on vitaly. Landing lefts repeatedly as vitaly backs up. The round ends and you hear a commotion in vitalys corner. Repeatedly you hear the corner saying "No, your OK, No your OK" But vitaly calls a stop to the fight.

After viewing the fight, I am also on the Vitaly lacked heart in that fight. He coiuld have fought threw the pain like every other fighter does, but he chose to quit because the going got tuff.

In my eyes Vitaly is a quitter

Yeah, I guess Chris "Little Tyson" Byrd was really hurting Vitali with all those love taps.

Actually I think Vitaly is the best in the division. Before watching the fight I would say the same thing you did. The truth is everyone fights with some kind of injury. Vitaly didnt seem to be in that much pain at all. He quit because things were starting to sway the other way.

You cant call me a hater because I made an honest observation, unless you are a hopeless nuthugger.

I agree with you, and Vitaly showed heart during the lewis fight. That doesnt mean he showed heart in the byrd fight.

Duran gave up once, but he regreted it also and it made him fight even harder after the fact.

My point is, just because you showed heart in one fight, doesnt mean you lacked heart in another.

OK. I take it back on calling you a hater.

In the last round it was apparent that Vitaliy was fighting with one arm.

              Okay

But why would he else quit?

Byrd needed a knock out and theres no way in hell hands of feathers byrd could knock head of stone VK

Exactly, there was one round left!!! Your telling me he couldnt bear the pain for 1 round? 3 minutes? He hung around for the post fight interviews but couldnt avoid feather fists for 3 minutes?

To me that makes you a quitter.

                  There were 3 more rounds, 10, 11, and 12.

Byrd was the FIRST opponent that didnīt let Vitaly slaughter him! Byrd came to Germany with a game plan and really wanted the title. Of course Vitali won the early rounds because he was more active, but he could never hurt Byrd. Byrd was fighting as usual: slipping punches, using the ring size. After he had analyzed Vitali for five rounds, he started fighting back. I gave him rounds 7,8,9 (6 was even). Vitali just didnīt know what to do with Byrd and he was running out of gas with every minute. I speak German and can therefore understand what they were saying in the corner and later on the press conference. They used a damaged hand as an excuse, but couldnīt decide if left or right . Later it was a torn rotator cuff .

Anyway, maybe Vitali made a mistake, but he made it up for us boxing fans! I think he proofed that he changed his attitude, so I am concinced that we wonīt see something like this happen again.
