lol
ortiz is a huge WW. huge. 165 on fight night. canelo is not much more than a few lbs bigger than than that. ortiz was scheduled to fight canelo. lopez broke his jaw.
you guys just like to complain.

and now you're complaining about jose getting the fight?
what in the world?
canelo is not fighting a serious threat until he's maximizing his earning potential. when he fights floyd mayweather (a fading ATG WW, who boxes so well that i'd pick him to beat everybody in the world at 154,) you guys will find a reason to complain about it.
canelo is going to fight light touches until he gets mayweather type money. you gotta get over it. it is working. he's getting better, and he's making the same or more than he'd be making against the top contenders and having to split some money.
do you guys really think they're going to keep canelo from fighting big dogs forever?
they're going to cash out. he'll probably get put through the ringer. he is 22. he can make you money for 15 years if you play your cards right. you've already put millions into promoting and paying the kid, and you've invested years.
if you play them wrong you can lose it all.
josesito lopez just broke ortiz jaw. he's young, confident, mexican american, a very TV friendly fighter, and he'll probably hit canelo with a few shots before getting blown out of the water magnificently.
better than mayorga.
Damn, are you saying Marcos Maidana deserves a shot at the title at 154???
He messed Ortiz up quicker than Lopez did.
Let's let Maidana bypass all the title eliminators that Kirkland, Vanes and Lara had to fight in and just give the shot to Maidana.Last edited by BoxingGenius27; 07-09-2012, 10:44 PM.

it's pretty bad when even the Canelo nuthuggers aren't trying to defend this fight.
why not Archie Solis?
Canelo has yet to fight a serious contender at 154, I guess it's more of the same.
I rag on Top Rank, Al Haymon and the like all day but if this is true it really takes the cake. GBP is setting the bar pretty low.

Lol New England thinks Maidana deserves to fight Canelo for the title at 154 because he beat Victor Ortiz.
Forget about the fact that he loss a close fight to Jesse Vargas. Let's forget that... He just beat the undisputed multi weight class champ, Victor Ortiz.

this fight makes absolutely no sense lopez was small against his fight against ortiz which was at 147 fighting at 154 makes no sense another dumb fight against canelo. he hasnt fought anybody with any real talent or a threat

Please stop while you're ahead before you completely change my mind for you're almost there.
Just stop.
Lopez has done absolutely NOTHING at 154, just like Victor Ortiz has done absolutely NOTHING at 154. I thought Lopez put up a good fight against Vargas, but he lost. I take nothing away from Lopez, but beating Ortiz in your first fight at 147 does NOT earn you a title shot at 154.
Why are all the contenders at 154 fighting in 8 different title eliminators for some guy to win at 147 and get an automatic bid??????????
Should James Kirkland fight Jesse Vargas next?
Should Lara fight Mikey Garcia at a catchweight next????
Should Vanes fight Juan Manual Marquez next for a shot at Canelo??
Are you really trying to debate this right now?
virtually every writer discounts paper titles. to historians they mean next to nothing.
they are paper titles. titles in name only. just look at how canelo won said belt.
you yourself seem to think his rein is a farce (which for a championship reign, it is.)
why then put so much importance into it? it's a farce belt
there are four belts in a division. some recognize five.
they have interim, vacancies, diamond, silver.
the best four fighters in the division are almost never the ones who hold them.
the titles exist to make money for the sanctioning bodies, promotors, networks, venues, and fighters, in that order.
i put ZERO stock into them
in my eyes canelo is not a world champion. he's a 22 year old with almost unlimited earning potential. fighters with starpower like his dont come about very often.
they should match him carefully until they get him in the ring with floyd mayweather.
is a paper title really the root of all of this? it's hardly any more than a piece of leather.
in fact it's exactly nothing more than a piece of leather.

MISMATCH!!! I dont Understand this fight because even if Canelo Pounds Out Lopez in impressive fashion, it does nothing for his star Power or Earning potential. It Doesnt progress him. His Fighting a TRUE 140 Pounder??? Ridiculous...
