    No.

If he would fight and beat the top names it will speed his career along.

But instead he is protecting himself, by taking the easy fights.

You may like that type of thing, but I don't.

And how long will we have to wait till he steps up?
    Your initial list:

    John
    Caballero
    Salido
    Gamboa
    Lopez
So, in your mind, the guys who are close to fighting for a title, like Garcia or a titleholder like John/Salido, would fight russsell at this point. Yeah, thats exactly what their management team would agree to do.

So then he should fight Caballero or Lopez, who he just called out. AGain, why is anyone complaining?

Did you say the same thing when Mikey Garcia said he wasn't ready for Gamboa and turned down a title fight?

Didn't JuanMa get blasted twice by Salido and hung on for his life against the African Dude, whose name no one cares about. If Gary Russell wants to prove his worth, do it against Mikey Garcia or Jhonny Gonzalez or even Cabellero. Calling out a guy who was destroyed in his last two fights, then saying he has to wait till 2013, is nothing but more excuses to keep fighting Pansies. I think Russell Jr has a future in the sport, however, to say he is not being protected but is "Building his Career" is garbage.

Having read the full article it sounds to me as if he was asked about Donaire.

Gary compliments Nonito and then says he thinks he could beat him and tries to make some reasonable case as to why he might could.

So what do folks want him to say? "No. I'm just a hype-job and Donaire will kick my ass."?

Some editor reads the interview and creates a sensational headline and said headline generates traffic. Russel Jr. probably thanks said journalists for helping to raise his profile thus helping him to get fights on favorable terms w/some of the guys in between where he's at and Donaire, Mares, Gamboa, etc...win/win...

I think the outlook is favorable for him being legit competition for guys like the above mentioned and am looking forward to seeing him work his way in that direction.

Like everybody else, I hope they don't draw out the process in too excruciating a fashion.

BTW, does anybody know what his nickname is? I don't see it at boxrec.

He ain't fighting them, or anyone in the top 20/25

Again how long will we have to wait till he fights a top 10 fighter? That should be the bare minimum.

That was not me....actually, I didn't know Garcia turned down a fight for the title. Maybe he wished he had accepted it now that Cab has been difficult to nail down.

Call out the big names but never fight any of them

When another hype job or an top old fighter who is past his prime is available take the fight and maybe pick up a cheap title along the way.

You may fall for that, but thankfully more and more boxing fans are becoming wise to this.
You are passing judgement before anything has happened. That seems a little silly and biased. Rusell is building himself as a fighter and as a marketable entity. Nothing wrong with that.

You complaining about what russell may do, before he does it, when you laud and support manny for doing exactly that, illustrates that you are not really a boxing fan at all.

You done very little of note as yet, more hype than substance.

                  Garcia
                  John
                  Caballero
                  Salido
                  Gamboa
                  Lopez

Are all there for you to fight, when are going to fight one of them instead of taking the gimme fights.

It is about time you stepped up.
Gamboa said hes not fighting at 126 anymore. Hes calling Juanma out and theyre giving him ****. Now he "calls" Donaire out and he has to prove himself first? Not like Donaire is a champion at 126...

I thought it was interesting to see Mikey, who I like, say i'm just not ready. At the end of the day, there isn't anything wrong with that.

Building a career in boxing isn't as easy as people think. Russell is developing his skills and he is also using his TV spots to create a buzz about him. To this point, through 20 fights, I see no problem with this.

If you say you are better than Gamboa, you have no right agreeing to fight an eliminator and then wanting a setup instead. Bottom line.
