First of all, respect your elders. Secondly, an expert can see things that a boxer can't see outside the ring that he can capitalize on. It's not saying you have to be a boxer to be an expert to speak on boxing. Floyd has probably a 10th grade education, so it's expected of him. Great job Larry. Much respect.

this fight was an all time classic because business got handled the way business was supposed the get handled. i liked ortiz before the fight and i still like ortiz but he got exactly what the f@#$%# deserved. how do blantantly head butt someone three times then complain when you knocked out???....???...he bought that ass whupping. and as far as larry merchant concerned, it's funny how the majority of people were calling for his head for the last 10 years, now are looking at him as some kind of hero. how do you tell p4p champ 50 years ago you would've "kick his ass" when you've never been in a f!@#$%# fight in your whole life. he's a racist dinosaur, always been and always will be and he should have been fired 10 years ago, good riddance.

Tiger Woods has swing coaches. Those swing coaches have swung a golf club maybe millions of times. I highly doubt that Tiger Woods is having swing coaches who have barely ever played golf ever before. Who becomes a swing coach without a want to play golf? They don't have to challenge Tiger Woods to play golf...
Roger Federer's coach may not have been #1 in the world, but he most likely has had a lot of experience actually playing tennis himself. In fact he is a former professional tennis player. Was Larry Merchant ever a professional boxer? I don't believe he ever was though correct me if I'm wrong.
Again, how can you make the assumption that great football coaches are ones who have never played a snap in their life. Also, football coaches become coaches by learning from other football coaches.
Experience isn't everything, but it sure as hell matters a lot. Good boxers will fight as well as analyse their opponent, commentators just analyse the fight. Would you choose a doctor who has done his research but never performed a certain type of surgery before or a doctor who has done his research and also performed that surgery before?
Exactly. That guy is making a big time incorrect assessment. And he fails to understand that experience results in knowledge many, many times. What Floyd said is so simple and so basic, that it's mindblowing that anyone has the nerve to really challenge what he said. It is a universal truth that can be broken down in the most simplistic forms.
But this type of thing happens quite a bit. There are many commentators who haven't played a sport, and if they did were horrible at it. It even goes as far as the educational system, where you have many teachers in high schools and universities, lecturing upon subjects that they have no real-world professional experience in.

So you telling me, that someone who observes auto mechanics, can analyze what's wrong with a car better than a pro mechanic? You are telling me that a ******, who has lots of experience watching *** tapes, can give you a better analysis regarding ***, than a seasoned ********** can? That is in essence, what you are suggesting. Can you be called an expert writer just off the strength of reading many books and interviewing many authors? No! An analysis regarding writing is far better conducted by a seasoned writer than one who has no experience writing. Comparing one with the other is insanity. Pure insanity.
Can't believe you even went as far as saying the one without practical real world experience, can see things the seasoned pro cannot! Are you kidding me? It is completely the other way around!

I totally support Mayweather putting an officious and biased Larry Merchant in his place -- Merchant was clearly trying to stir up trouble and cast Mayweather as a villain -- Merchant also tried to bait Oritiz into doing the same but to Ortiz's credit, he refused to take the bait -- time for Merchant to toddle off into the sunset

I understand why people have mix emotions on this. The only thing i don't agree are the unnecessary words that FMJ added to his answers on Merchant's question.
You can answer the question in a professional manner without colorful words. He should have just stop after the statement "You don't give me a fair shake"
