They don't have to challenge Tiger Woods to play golf...

Roger Federer's coach may not have been #1 in the world, but he most likely has had a lot of experience actually playing tennis himself. In fact he is a former professional tennis player. Was Larry Merchant ever a professional boxer? I don't believe he ever was though correct me if I'm wrong.

Again, how can you make the assumption that great football coaches are ones who have never played a snap in their life. Also, football coaches become coaches by learning from other football coaches.

Experience isn't everything, but it sure as hell matters a lot. Good boxers will fight as well as analyse their opponent, commentators just analyse the fight. Would you choose a doctor who has done his research but never performed a certain type of surgery before or a doctor who has done his research and also performed that surgery before?
But ultimately Merchant is a analyst, commentator and interviewer. Which is what he was doing.
I dont agree with the way he conducted the interview, or his opinion on this fight, but Floyd saying u have to be a boxer to know anything about boxing isnt true in this context.
Merchant isnt telling Floyd how to fight, he was asking him his opinion about the crowd reaction and the ending that seemed to many unfair.
      Larry did his job.

I have never been sooo happy to see this old fool put down for once, the man is a bully, These boxer go through 2-3 months of training and then get in the ring to fight, this old racist bully comes across like the boxers have to bow down to him, they don't need an analyst who is just ready to put them down at the slightest opportunity or an interviewer who isn't allowing them to say what they want to say after an emotional fight.

Larry Merchant was made an excuse to cover up a disgusting unsportsmanlike conduct shown without remorse by the supposed-to-be the best American boxer to the whole world. Now the world knows how to fight in America....be sneaky without morals! It's alright its American boxing.

And at is age he must be able to reconise a gentleman or a bum. And last night we saw where does Mayweather stands.
huh !?! you make no since..

Any man that study woman Human Anatomy can become Gynecologist, but you can not study being an Auto mechanic your whole life and stand over the shoulder of a true Gynecologist and tell them how to do their Job.

with that being said none of the old fighter were anything but gentlemen, when you step into the square ring its the hurt business a quote, floyd took directly form sugar ray Robinson.. Floyd didn't cry to the ref when Victor head butted him.

Larry simply did his job. What was he supposed to ask floyd about, his favorite color? The dude just pulled one of the cheapest sucker punches you ll ever see. The stadium sounded like a riot was breaking out. Floyd needs to stick to boxing, stop worrying about 24/7 story lines. Stop crying about the love pacquiao gets. Stop calling for analysts to get fired. If he was fighting for his "legacy", im not sure how that circus act was supposed to help things.

                  very well said...

i think floyd inside himself hated the way the fight ended...

it ended to a tee as per a well written script......

but so many people saw thru the charade..disgusted and booed..

and he let out steam on larry on frustrations...

he entered the ring with little class and left the ring without it..

totally agree with this post -- Merchant was trying to paint MW as the villain -- he then tried to bait Ortiz into doing the same thing but to his credit Ortiz didn't bite -- props to MW for putting Merchant in his place in no uncertain terms -- someone should tell Merchant that no one pays $$$ to listen to his snide, biased comments and questions
