Comments Thread For: Nacho: Marquez Has To Survive Early Pacquiao Rounds

Trainer Nacho Beristain is hoping that Juan Manuel Marquez is able to survive the early assault from WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Their fight happens on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Nacho believes Pacquiao is very dangerous for the first four rounds and Marquez has to withstand those rounds to secure a victory in the trilogy.

Well duh Nacho. Once someone tastes Pacquiao's power they go into survival mode.

Interesting that Nacho "admits Pacquiao is much better now" than the last two fights versus Marquez. That is exactly what I've been saying all along with regards to this upcoming fight between Manny and JMM. Pacquiao has elevated to new heights. He's not the same guy Juan Manuel fought so closely with. While JMM is pushing the envelope of his capabilities, Manny has risen to a level no one foresaw. I believe Pacquiao is going to very convincingly beat Marquez in what's going to be their last meeting. Manny by KO over the great Juan Manuel Marquez.

I dont think he is saying Pac is a 4 round slugger. He is referring to Marquez's weak first 3-4 rounds in which he is analyzing your punches so he can counter them. This is common with all counter punchers like Floyd in the Mosley fight. He got caught bad in the 2nd round. But once he realized where the punches were coming from he had Mosley figured out. That is why Mosley's success ended after that round.

Marquez is a similar animal. He was caught badly by Pac in the first round of the first fight. The second fight he got too trigger happy after landing a punch combo as Pacquiao was moving back after his own attack. He visibly hurt Pac more than he had in their previous 14 rounds and went for a knockout. Obviously Pac's offense was too much for Marquez to go toe to toe with. But the main point is that Marquez did not get knocked down after the 3rd round of either fight. I believe all of Marquez's knockdowns have come early on.

I believe this fight will be a report card assesment of Pacquiao's growth as a fighter since 2008. I believe we will shocked at how well Pacquiao can handle Marquez this time around. I agree weight and age are a factor but Marquez is still a top ten p4p fighter, and Pacquiao has a knack for bringing out the best in JMM.

I remember reading an article in which a writer said that Pacquiao does the expected in unexpected fashion. That is what will happen here.

              Can't wait for this fight.

marquez doens't go into survival mode, even after the first fight and second he never once did that, who went into survival mode against pac after feeling his power? cotto, the whole fight after that first knockdown, marquez won't do that,he'll TRY to win,not just survive

and we don’t get too crazy I think it will be better."

and in the second round he thought he had Manny hurt and he went for it and got caught himself. Those are the things we can’t do. You have to be patient and wait for your opportunity. If you go with him, he has the one punch that can knock you out.
Duh. JMM better know his role in this fight, and not get carried away after he counter Manny few times.

Pac should be able to KO the LW very early. If he doesn't and gets tagged, he's either getting old, still cant handle a defensive counter puncher, or all the above.

JMM needs to withstand the early rounds and just survive. He's destine to lose in this division. This fight is more about how will Pac look vs a style that is known to give him problems.
