Why doesn't JMM come in at 135??

If his optimum weight is 135 why doesn't he come in at that weight? Pac came in at 144 for a JMW fight so it's not against the rules. At fight night he'll be withing 2-3 lbs of Manny anyways so he won't be at a disadvantage.

people say that Marquez optimum weight is at 135 since they considered him at his peak when he fought at that weight class.

      but he's now aged.

and fighters tend to get heavier as they age, so 135 may not be his optimum weight at this point in time.

IMHO, Marquez is no longer at his peak and going down to 135 might actually drain him. most likely his optimal weight now would be around 140.

        yet

after he ventured up to 144 and lost instead of going to 140 and staying at 144ish what did he do?

went back to 135 even at his advanced age

also, the tune up fight he just had wanna take a guess as to what he weighed? 138, as a tune up for a welterweight fight.

yeah age really did make JMM heavier

he has no business going north of 135 and you know that but want to make it seem like he has good reason to when everything he has done and is currently doing indicates he makes 135 with relative ease

the man is not a welterweight

Pac isnt a full fledged welterweight but he is a natural Junior Welterweight and that is his best weight. Marquez's best weight is somewhere between 130 and 135 and Pacs is between 140 and 144.

Pac just carries the weight way better because most of his weight is in his legs because they are so built where as Marquez has thin legs compared to Pac and the more weight he gains the slower he gets and he gets a bit pudgy where pac just gets stronger.

At this point, at this time this fight is a mismatch just like Arum likes them to be.

Oh and to answer the question of the thread, he might do it or he might come in maybe at 140 or close to it just to try and have a little bit more power to get Pacs respect when he connects but either way I dont see it helping him this time. Hes to old and the weight is a huge advantage to Pac who obviously carries it much much better.

Good job to Bob "the crook" Arum!

I'd much rather Pac be fighting a top WW, but those are few and far between. The only significant names at WW are facing each other Sept. 17. There really arent any fights that make more sense right now for either Pac or JMM. JMM has a draw and a controversial loss to Pac and hes still winning, so he deserves another shot to redeem himself before he ages any further. Pacquiao has a draw and a controversial win, so he receives at least as much criticism for not giving JMM another chance as he does for fighting him above his best weight. Im far from thrilled with the fight, but it does make a certain amount of sense for both fighter.

I agree, the only thing that doesnt sit well with me is, you already have a close to 40 yr old man who comes from the lighter divisions who doesnt carry the weight and power like you do and has been showing his age lately just a bit and he already reached the peak of his weight jumping by hitting the ceiling at 135 and instead of meeting him at 140 which is your natural boxing weight you demand him to come up to 144?

I hated it when Floyd did it and Ill hate it now that Pac is doing it too. Although I believe Pac will make the weight unlike Floyd.

Pac has the opportunity to make his legend even greater by fighting a not in his prime but still capable JMM at 140 and doing the honorable thing and meeting him at JWW to shut up all the critics but theyre doing business "Bob Arum" style over there.
