Obviously floyd being an american is part of it.
Comparing the Oscar fight isn't rational either because Floyd was known by then and was favored to win. The public didn't know Manny at the time he fought Oscar and Manny was a huge underdog. I don't see how you can say Floyd generates more money now since Manny has his own Nike apparel line, HP commercials, records, concerts, etc. Floyd hasn't been in a commercial in over 2 yrs and that AT&T ad Floyd was just a small part sharing it with Bill Kurtis, Andy Rod****, Michael Phelps, etc. If Floyd fought more than once a year, the public would've gotten bored of his fights by now and his PPV numbers would actually DROP, IMO.

The big difference is that Manny and his people don't talk publicly about money, whereas Floyd brags and often inflates about his. Only his idiot fans believe him. Smart dudes NEVER disclose their income!! Keeps the IRS away.

HBO and SHOWTIME don't give a **** about pacquiao or mayweather, they care about GREEN. They will both do whatever they can to land both fighters. HBO would bend over and let manny gang **** everyone in their front office if he agreed to never fight on showtime again. Dude does 2.5 million ppv buys a year, MINIMUM. HBO didn't get to where they are by sending truck loads of money down the street to showtime, the suggestion that they will start now is ludicrous.

It is not only Showtime and HBO that are interested, other world known big companies like Nike and HP are included in this frenzy...and the whole world is very happy to watch Manny Pacquiao on their TV screens...and this will bring back big returns to companies being endorsed.

Mayweather vs Ortiz is a far better fight than Pacquiao vs Marquez.

You cannot compare those two fights.

One is a genuine title fight, and the other one is just an exhibition match.

Manny will never have to step up while he retains his huge inept fanbase.

Manny is popular because he wins fights not because of Arum. Once Manny reached a certain level of notoriety his name actually does more for Top Rank than their name does for him.

No, that is completely incorrect, Manny is popular because he is a super-hyped media creation supported by a huge non-boxing national fanbase.

IMO, Manny is not a popular boxer at all, he is just popular, period.

If Donaire was fighting a title fight on the same night that Manny was performing a concert, MOST of his fanbase would go watch the concert and would show little-to-no interest in Donaire's title fight.

Manny is more popular with casual fans than he is with hardcore boxing fans.

Ward keeps winning, Martinez keeps winning, Donaire keeps winning, John keeps winning, Marquez keeps winning, Rios keeps winning, Bradley keeps winning, Hopkins keeps winning..... but NOT ONE of those fighters get anywhere near the kind of media-fluffing that Manny enjoys.

And ALL of those fighters, with the exception of John, have a much better recent resume than Pacquiao.

Pac is feeding on old man, faded champions, and bums, and his less-than-intelligent fanbase just love him for it
