So Arum thinks Ortiz should be paid the same as Marquez is getting for a 3rd fight with Pac? What is he smoking? Who besides Pac is ready for Mayweather? Cotto? Margarito? I'll pass on the old and former champs, I'd rather see a young champ in his prime get a chance.

That's Arum style of babysitting and protecting his fighters and then they lose to fighters that are not even that famous or regarded as top quality opponents (Salido>Lopez) Ortiz is a WW champion who beat a WW champion for the title. Let him fight the best win or lose and get his respect they way it used to be. Bob is always putting fights off so he can capatilize off of the names but as soon as the guys get in the ring with someone hungry and determined they get beat. Young fighters should get it on early. Look what happened to Lopez, Kirkland, Berto and many others who kept taking the easy route and still wasn't ready for a challenge.

I asked Arum about persistent rumors about a Sept. 13 Vicious Victor Ortiz-Floyd Mayweather fight will take place.

“I had 11 years with Floyd and I say that fight won’t happen. For 11 years, I had problems getting him to consider a southpaw opponent. He refused to consider any southpaw except one and that was when he fought Zab Judah.”

Now all of a sudden Ortiz is too inexperienced for Mayweather? Arum puts his foot in his mouth again.

Old man is making no sense now, Marquez is making more money? Duh.

And from a boxing stand point it makes perfect sense. Now from a business stand point, it may not make sense if you're trying to protect your fighters like Arum does. Thats what he really meant. Trying to be slick and just exposed himself saying this.

Arum needs to be reminded, that fans want to see fighters challenge themselves for the right to earn us the fans admiration, respect, and most of all money. He has a nice stable of fighters, but he is ruining their marketability with dedicated boxing fans by continually marketing based on race or nationality, instead of talent.

Protecting fighters and lying to the loyal fans of the sport, can and will eventually backfire. The short term money may be great for him now, but the repercussions won't be as generous later on.
