I'm not so sure Floyd can do the same and it'll be pretty rough in the early going. It's been sixteen months. He is 34. It catches up with you at some point, usually when no one is suspecting it.
and nobodies talking about how he's a southpaw. A southpaw that took Berto to hell and left him there.

Its funny to see people discredit Berto and Ortiz because Pac didn't fight them but hype up Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. All fighters who haven't won a significant fight since 2008 and 2009. All fighters who didn't have a title or the best at there respected weight class. All where "former" champions.

Ortiz has a chance. Do I favor him? No but its the best fight for Floyd since Pac already had JMM picked before he fought Mosley. Just like he had Mosley picked before he fought Margarito and just like he had Clottey picked when he said "no" to Floyd and walked away with 7 different scared excuses.

I'm happy for Ortiz! I hope he takes Floyd to hell like he did Berto.

It'll start out good for the first 4 rounds then Floyd picks him apart

Sergio Martinez is not a 154 fighter. I am big fan and think what he has done in the last two years are far better than the accomplishments of Manny or any other fighter but he is a 160 boxer not 154

There is nothing Ortiz can do that will discourage Floyd, nothing.

However, Ortiz can very easily be discouraged by Floyd. Ortiz is very inconsistent one day he looks like an elite fighter(Berto) then the next he looks like meh(Peterson)

Ortiz has the tools, but you need more than just tools to beat Floyd. You need intangibles and I don't think Ortiz has any. showing it and doing it against Berto is one thing, showing it and doing it against Floyd it's a whole different level.

If Ortiz has proven to be mentally strong on a consistent basis then I would give him a hell of a chance. But, he hasn't proven that yet.
Funny, I think I agree with everything you said. You mention that Ortiz has the tools which I think is very important. What we don't know is whether he has the mental fortitude which I believe makes this a very, very dangerous fight for Floyd. And why I laud him. You choose to fight Ortiz now? After that? What if the version that fought Berto pops up? We've got a fight on our hands. Maybe Floyd still wins. But throw in the long layoff, the slowing down and the age and who knows?

Nevertheless, we don't know which Ortiz will show up. I wonder which Floyd will show up as well. Not in the ring (there are enough questions there), but outside of it. Will he harp on Ortiz being a "quitter" and needle him throughout the build-up? That may not be a good idea. Or will he play it off as Ortiz being young and inexperienced and that he's proven his heart, etc. I think he will opt for the latter. We'll see.

Ortiz will be more of a live opponent than Mosley. Ultimately it doesn't make much of a difference, because Mayweather is still in a completely different league. Mayweather will completely dismantle Ortiz and cruise to a wide UD.

Agree on all points. You have to make Floyd a solid favorite here but even if he wins, I believe he will struggle at times. And given his layoff, I could see a right hook from Ortiz introducing him to lala land.

I think Ortiz would need to be better than he was against Berto, but who knows this is a huge spot for him maybe he rises to the occasion and if Floyd slips a bit who knows.

Not something I would probably bet on but it is still a possibility.
