The only thing I can think is Dibella is just talking out of his ass A-G-A-I-N. I doubt Sergio would even take this fight, at least you'd have to hope not. Not after the "I have to beat the better opponents then Pacquiao to be rated #1". [I know some guys here will debate this to the bitter end about Pac and his opponents, but if you can't see a real difference then I'd say time to take the hate blinders off - and quit hitting the repeat button. NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT PACQUIAO] I think it's a step in the wrong direction TBH and would hope Martinez would see that too. Anyone with eyes could see there was something wrong with Kirkland in that fight. They weren't even hard blows by any standard and Cortez wrestling Kirkland to stay down didn't help any either. Now I'm not saying I don't give Ishida his credit, he won fair and square - but to call it an impressive win would be an overstatement in my opinion. The only fight I want to see with Ishida at this point is a rematch with Kirkland. My guess is Kirkland would rest and come back hella stronger. But if you haven't noticed yet, a lot of fighters are coming out of the woodwork saying "I want Ishida next!", but you didn't hear them calling for Kirkland just PRIOR to this loss, wonder why? Because Ishida would still be easier to beat then a well rested and well trained Kirkland. Bottom line is there is no reason for Martinez to take on a light touch now, it would be going backwards and he doesn't have the time for that. Especially with his biggest dream to be rated #1, and he's not far from it now.

At the end of the day I don't see this happening. Throw Martinez's name out there with the "tragedy in Japan" topic and call it good PR work nothing more.

Real boxing fans won't even support the IDEA of this fight. Why won't he fight a mandatory? He ducked his last 2 and is looking like he will duck another one. **** what HBO wants or doesn't want. HBO is ruining boxing. HBO is so desperate for a cash cow now that Pac is on Showtime and Mayweather is in limbo that they are trying to manufacture someone to talk about but Martinez has never been a big draw and never will be.

And whats sad is Ishida is probably gonna accept the offer and HBO will hype this fight up like its the fight of the year and act like Martinez is a ATG when he destroys him.

I dont believe in 'freebie' fights when you only fight twice a year. besides, Dzinziruk was pretty close to a freebie fight anyway. I dont believe this fight will actually happen, but Im just not liking the names being thrown around right now by Martinez.

If Martinez wants a 'break' from tough competition, then go beat up a bum in a nontitle fight inbetween the 2 fights youll have in 2011. no one is stopping you.

Check mate! Ishida actually beat a undefeated, young prospect who had a rep for being a "BEAST". I would take a Pirog or Rubio fight over this one but like you said. It is a good marketing strategy. Arum does the same with Pac and his oppoents. How about the famous PR line for the Mosley fight "He almost KO'd Mayweather".

I'm not saying Martinez is scared of Pirog. But, again what should Pirog do that he has not or is not willing to do? You claiming he's not going after the fight. But, he is going after the fight. What more do you want?

Is not his fault that HBO doesn't want him on the network. He has been wanting to go back to the network since the Jacobs fight. The reason why he didn't fight again in 2010 was cuz' he was hoping for an HBO date that never came.

And, yes Pirog team have called out Martinez plenty of times. And, in return Martinez team have said, "Fuck Pirog," because he won the title that was stripped from Martinez.

Wouldn't it make sense to fight in hbo, a week apart from martinez to drum up interest.
