There's a verbal agreement between Top Rank and Martinez's adviser/lawyer to stage Cotto-Martinez in September, so unless one side breaches the agreement or one guy/both lose their upcoming matches... it should happen in the fall at 154 or 155.

THIS FIGHT WILL HAPPEN. Martinez wants it and Cotto wants it. There is no reason for not wanting this fight. It has the potential to be a great fight... After Cotto sends both Mayorga and Margarito to their well deserved retirement Arum will have no choice but to let this fight happen...
Special note: Margarito without the plaster has not been and will never be the same.
At this time I will not give my opinion on who will win between a Cotto vs. Martinez clash because it is still two fights away and because we still need to see how well Cotto will perform in the meanwhile. My hunch is that Cotto still has fuel in his tank and that Emanuel Steward as his trainer will bring the best out of him.

I like Sergio Martinez, but I don't want to really see this fight. People outside of hardcore Cotto fans have bad mouthed Cotto for fighting a guy like Mayorga, and rightfully so. But by the same tokken that's why fighting a washed up slug like that shouldn't propel him to an automatic title shot against an elite fighter. Cotto should have to beat a guy like Dzinziruk while Martinez fights Pirog and then the winners fight each other. But that's a pipe dream. At the very least, Cotto should've fought Berto but Cotto ducked him. Dibella said he'd be reasonable on the money split.

Do you really beleive Dibella?? I read the article too and Yes, Dibella actually said "I would not price Berto out of this fight". Meaning that he has priced him out previously and everybody know it. When he said that was in refernce to fight Cotto on March 12, the same day Sergio has a fight on HBO.

Sergio would represent a really tough fight for Cotto but if Cotto accepts to face him I would rather see him going the same gameplan that has been discussed already. Mayorga, Margarito and pending how he comes out of that then he can think of Martinez at 155 or Pacman at 154.

I see good chances for Cotto to win the 1st two fights but Martinez and Pacman are very very very tough for Cotto although I see these fights taking place and would be very good ones also.

Margarito vs Cotto 2 or Margarito vs Martinez 2 are good fights but not Martinez vs Cotto, i think Martinez should push for a Mayweather fight at 154, it would be a very intriguing match up or fight someone like Kirkland!
