If someone has a big following that = more HBO subscriptions.
Do you seriously believe that people were subscribing to HBO for Gatti fights?

Go take a look at Gatti's viewership nums.

I will bet you any amount of money that you can't financially justify the HBO licensing fees paid.

And I mentioned Gatti, but i'm not singling him out. You can do the same for MOST fights/fighters.

well its doesn't necessarily effect it directly but it think it would help with viewership ... it would mean as your flicking the channels and pass over a gatti fight in ac and see the crowd going nuts u may stop on it. watch it enjoy it and continue to subscribe and watch the next fight.

watching berto fight quintana in his hometown hearing crickets isnt a good thing. cause atmosphere does translate on screen.

Has their been a headline Berto fight on HBO that ever did more ratings than any of Gatti headlines on HBO?

        Serious question.

I enjoy how you cats threw **** against a wall, yet nobody was able to provide a single fact.

There are few (very few) people who have driven revenues and profits for TWI.
Manny, Oscar , Vargas, Tito, Floyd , etc. The guys who were essentially homegrown and transitioned to PPV stars.

That is how it works. You are essentially an expense until you start generating PPV sales and revenue for the affiliates. In the case of Gatti, he had exactly one PPV event - the fight with Floyd that sold about 370K.

SHO does a FAR superior job in putting on great fights economically.

Keep in mind how many incremental subscribers you would have to add (on a base of about 36 million) to pay for boxing.

...and the guys who watch boxing had bought HBO for the Sopranos anyway...so you can only add REAL incrementality.

WTF is "roi" and wtf is this guy talking about?

You gonna sit here and pretend that this has anything to do with Berto being good for Hbo???

              Gatti >> Berto.

              You can't win this.

I can double -check, but i'm 99% sure not. Berto is shyte commercially.

We know why Berto is getting the checks he does ...LDB's relationship w the network.

                  ROI is return on investment.

Ypu know, the thing that everybody in business is concerned with...or should be.

Don't get me wrong. I have no love for Berto. I just don't like the selectivity of picking out Berto when they have had the same issues w gatti/shane.

                    BTW, I like the Lowcountry.

It's funny how half the time, you guys justify fights on "economics" when it suits your argument or you like a certain fighter.

And then when you don't like a fighter, fights should be made on competitive appeal.

Absolutely, his fights had very high ratings. HBO doesn't do boxing for charity.

Boxing affects subscriber numbers for some customers (I include myself in this).
