Id say that a lot of the reason that many people watched the floyd-shane fight was the fact that people thought shane was an actual threat to floyd. And people watched because they were interested in watching floyd fight a threat, due to the general belief that floyd was/is a cherry picker, ducker, etci.
    But did you buy Cotto-Mosley?

I mean, Cotto-Mosley is a "A" fight...right? And it sold less than Mayweather-Baldomir, which was considered a walkover.

What is confusing is how everybody says Shane is an exciting fighter...but nobody buys or attends his fights. WTH?

Shane doesn't have to be a big draw for his fight with Pacquiao to sell.
At this point, Pacquiao is a brand, and all that is needed for a 1mill+ result is to sell the idea that his opponent has a chance.

They couldn't with Clottey. They probably can with Shane. (and even more so with JMM. Berto? Maybe not.)

Berto is EASILY sellable as a dangerous young, undefeated puncher w speed.

Berto is an average fighter, but he has highlight reel KO's. And he is connected with that hip-hop community and he speaks fluent English.

I agree that the Marquez fight is easier to sell than Mosley.

Tyson Holyfield..etc managed to become mainstream stars but in general It's not as easy being a big draw for african-american fighters because they don't get the same support from their own people the way Latino fighters for example. A Puerto Rican or a Mexican can be a draw without being a mainstream star that's not the case for an African-American.

AA's seem to be much more into basketball and football. They spend their sports dollar on those sports.

...I think we can agree those were driven by Oscar's popularity.

Shane vs Estrada was the undercard of Margarito-Cintron. That did 225K buys.

                  Shane vs Vargas1: 415K buys
Shane vs Vargas 2: 375K buys
...can we agree those were driven by Nando's loyal fanbase?

Shane vs Cotto : 340K buys. Sold out at MSG (all Cotto's fans. remember, Cotto had sold the Garden with Abdullaev and Judah, and did 225K buys with Judah)

Shane vs Margarito: on WCB, Sold out Staples (all Mexican fans)

Shane vs Collazo: Mandalay Bay <5,000 attendance, much fewer paid.

Shane vs Mora: 100K PPV; 13,000 attendance at Staples.

Shane vs Mayorga: WCB; 5,798 attendance at Home Depot Center

So, when Manny says that Shane is a big draw (or much bigger than Marquez, for example)...what specifically is he referring to?

i bet you cant find a source for that 100k buys against mora.

Shane has never been a draw, the only place that guy fill an arena is California.

Manny is fighting Shane for obvious reasons, and it sure isn't because he is any sort of big draw.
