You guys don't get it. It's not about being big stars or having drawing power.

It's about recently looking bad, and not being from GBP. Chances increase 10 fold if you're in Top Rank.

Clottey is far from a boxing star and has no fans, yet he got a shot at Pacquiao. That's because 1. He's in Top Rank, and 2. He just came off a loss to Cotto[which I thought he won], but either way neither Cotto or Clottey looked impressive in that fight.

Marquez has won all of his fights after Pacquiao, except just one at 147, far away from his best weight against the best fighter in the world. Marquez could have possibly been 53-2-2 right now with unbiased judging, because let's face it, whoever you thought won between Pac and Marquez's 2 fights, both were draw-worthy but I had Marquez in the first and second but I never called those fights robberies since they were so close. Marquez undeniably got robbed against John and Norwood.

      I agree.

He's an exciting fighter, and that's landed him as the B-side on some big cards.

People will buy a fight with Shane Mosley on the card. He comes to fight. He alone isn't going to move 500k buys with his own name. He can definitely boost sales on a well promoted card though.

He's like the definition of the perfect B-side opponent if there is one. People know OF him, enough to buy a big fight, but he never is going to be a guy to move many sells unless he has a dancing partner.

cotto and clottey are both elite WWs. when the elite fight the elite, it's gonna be a tough close fight. would you have rather cotto and clottey blow out some bum, then get a fight with pac?

if that's the case, then i see why you'd want berto since he just came off an impressive victory over a bum.

so I guess all mosley has to do is blow out some bum and then he instantly is a viable candidate for pac?

IMHO, jmm has to prove he can carry the weight above 135 lbs, just like mosley should have to prove he isn't a shot fighter.

mosleys always been a fighters fighter, or a fight fans fighter, he's never been a crossover star, just a boxing star.

there is more to mosley as a skilled fighter that is appreciated than there is marketable exploitations. mosley's demeanor and skill set are what made him popular, not his mouth, so it's tough for a guy like that to get really noticed until he starts making an ass of himself, ie mayweather.

it wasn't until mayweather started becoming extremely obnoxious and rude, that he started getting this type fame about him. mosley doesn't roll like that and never has, so i think he struggled more with getting his numbers up because he was humble and didn't play the villain and act ignorant.

mosley's marketing wasnt really there either, because his people should've really boosted him up after winning against oscar, so of the decisions after his first win over oscar was pretty poor, and the rematches he pulled right after losing were poor managing...........

it takes the right team of people and a schtick to gain popularity, it's obvious skill and talent only get you so far into the mainstream public eye.........

better yet, if you want to get a fight with manny, you have to be knocked out or dominated in a very recent fight.

manny's recent opponents have lost about half of their fights coming in. Without checking...

            mosley L-D
            margarito L (KO)-W
            clottey L
            cotto L (KO) W-W
            hatton L (KO) w w
            delahoya L-W

            6-6-1

Cotto was once an elite welterweight, before he was assaulted with plaster. Clottley? You have to be kidding me.

It's a ****ty fight. Remember when Arum was trying to downplay Shane as a draw when he wanted to make Pac/Cotto? Now he's trying to make it seem like Mosley is a draw.

There are reasons that floyd gets more views than Arturo Gatti or Michael katsidis. At the end of the day, people want to see sports performed at the apex.
That's cool. I honestly think floyds draw is his 0 which tbh is a result of his own hard work
but that's just it. People buy his ppv because they think "this is the guy that finally whoops his ass". Which is why they bought oscar (and everyone liked oscar too, they knew who he was) hatton jmm and mosley. I think that's really why everyone wants to see pac-floyd.
imagine if castillo got the win vs floyd. You think he'd be as big an attraction now?
