You folks can say anything you want about Arum, but he has proven time and again that he is a great promoter. How many of you *****ed about and threatened to boycott the Pac-Margarito fight and pronounced that it would never do more than 700K PPV buys? Where did the 1.15M PPV audience come from?
Arum is right in saying that hardcore boxing fans only account for around 150K buys, while the majority are casual fans who will only watch 'name' fighters. Even Marquez and Berto combined in one card could only pull in a paying audience of <5000. I would be surprised if it did 300K PPV buys.
The fact is that Arum knows what sells and what doesn't. If his cards keep selling, it only means that casual fans keep getting hooked to boxing, and the sport as a whole remains viable regardless of the *****ing and whining among its hardcore fans.
