The constant argument happens to be that Martinez calling out Pacquiao is outrageous because of the size difference. Martinez has had 2 fights as a full fledged middleweight: Martinez-Williams I and Martinez-Pavlik. He is the middleweight champion because he beat the man who beat the man.(pavlik) That's it, he has not fought the other middleweight contenders but make no mistake he beat the 2 most dangerous guys in that division. Pacquiao has had 2 fights as a full welterweight and yet many still consider him a junior welterweight. Martinez is challenging Pacquiao for the same title he was stripped this same year, so how is that abnormal? Martinez has fought most his career as 154 as I pointed out before he has officially fought as a middleweight for 2 fights. The Williams rematch was as a catchweight so I don't count that. A point can be made if Martinez has been a career middleweight like Sturm or Abraham then yes I agree he should not be calling out Pacquiao. Or Lucian Bute calling out Pacquiao, I believe that is outrageous. Those guys have made their careers at those higher weight classes so they are naturally a lot bigger than a guy like Pacquiao.

I will make a blunt statement, Arum is not concerned about Martinez's size. What he is doing protecting his financial assets. What he is concerned about is Martinez's skill and the problems he may present to Pacquiao if they were to fight. The size issue is a decoy do not get confused. If Pacquiao were to lose to Martinez, Arum would lose his cash cow and Arum is not ****** enough to take this risk. Food for thought, if Martinez was a Top Rank fighter this fight would probably be made in a heartbeat. Arum would be winning on both sides and a Martinez win over Pacquiao would mean he can fall back on Martinez as a strong financial asset and Pacquiao would still be his cash cow because Pacquiao a loved fighter by the public.
I admire Pacquiao for pushing himself to the limit fighting bigger guys. He became P4P #1 because of this. If Martinez wants to be #1, he should also do the same. Fighting Pacquiao 2 divisions below his class is not a P4P feat at all. It will take a lot of debate if he will be given such acknowledgment. I would just say, Martinez at this point is just riding on Pacquiao's popularity and for the money that Pacquiao brings to all his opponents.

Vernon Forrest beat p4p number 1 Mosley but wasnt awarded the title. so was Taylor when he beat Hopkins. its not how it works.
I don't care what Sergio wants. I want to see a good fight. If he wants a p4p mythical title so be it that is on him. I don't care. Whatever motivates Martinez Pacquiao or any fighter to put on great performances in the ring and put up the best fights is fine with me. But I for one do not put much emphasis on p4p status and such because in the end of the day it is all opinions.

I'm sure Martinez, although they say otherwise prob in order to pull a "Roach" catch weight, can prob still make 154.
did u forget that maravilla and pwill is in a catchweight? u re-named it now?? wow cool....

Indeed! Pacquiao is boxing's one-man stimulus package

I agree with you bro, I do not think that Martinez should be p4p #1 if he beats Pacquiao, but it will be a helleva fight. I respectfully disagree with the notion that Martinez has to move up divisions to prove himself greater than everybody else. Every fighter even an ATG fighter create their own legacy in their own way. IMO Pacquiao is a top 20 ATG, one of the greatest fighters of all history. I am blessed this man work in the ring I really am. He has cemented his legacy by climbing the weight classes but many other great fighters have cemented their legendary careers in other ways. Martinez can be a great fighter by doing other feats, I guess a big fight would be a start. lol Pacquiao doesn't have to fight Martinez either, so it does not matter we are all just debating in a forum, ultimately Pacquiao and Martinez do what they want so it is what it is.

But then again, fat chance of that, because when has Manny ever fought a top fighter, who was on top of his game?
so just because cotto and clottey had one lost prior to fighting pac, they're not on top of their game...and that their shot, etc...? how about when pac lost to morales? was pac shot after that? and because pac has been in alot of great wars in the lighter weights...that usually equates to being a shot fighter according to *****s...yup, according to *****s, one loss makes you shot...and not ontop of their game.

and if pac never fought any top fighters since jumping up to welterweight, then you got me because most/alot of the boxing media has said pac is FIGHTER OF THE DECADE, P4P #1, AND HAVE BEATEN THE TOP FIGHTERS SINCE MOVING UP TO WELTERWEIGHT.

i dont know how the boxing media can rate pac where he is if he hasnt beaten any top fighters...i'll the the majority of the media ratings vs your personal ***** opinion

Then he should call Floyd for a best fight, because Floyd is taller and bigger and had actually been in JMW and whether at 154lbs full JMW or at 155lbs catchedweight in MW isn't much issue for them. Or Pac-Floyd at 147lbs if we really wanted to see a much better fight.

                    I do!

"I Don't Blame Arum For Protecting Pacquiao" - Sergio Martinez

I do! Bob wont let Cotto fight Martinez either. Who would want to watch it anyhow? Cotto should get his revenge on Margarito.

We know Bob doesn't like to deal with anyone he hasn't ALREADY "selected". Mayweather and Martinez are not on his agenda. JMM or Mosley at a 147 are the lottery "winners" for Top Ranks finest.

Berto is only mentioned to distract from Mosley and JMM while Mayweather's name is mentioned to distract form Martinez and vice-a-versa.

We know Bob has someone picked already and uses the media to distract from his actual agenda that Martinez is talking about.

Nobodies that ******, people just ignore what really goes on to favor there agenda. That's "fanboyism"!

We got you Bob! Martinez is STILL pointing and laughing....... P4P #1 spot is about to be taken from either Mayweather or Pac depending on who's balls you juggle.

Martinez - "is coming for that #1 spot" - Luda

Its a shame how boxing has become. You have Floyd who dont want to fight Pac, Pac who is "making history"(cheating history) by putting fighters at a disadvantage with catchweights. Then you have Cotto who with his warrior mentality is taking the losses, because he just fights.

We need more guys to just fight(clean).
The real warriors should be rewarded and known, and the casual fans need to learn this from the media.
