If he did that against a Margarito who comes out looking strong and purposeful it would be remarkable, but I'm open to that as a possible outcome...maybe Manny really is that superhuman.

For my part, I just meant it's ****** to act like the Garcia fight is telling, or to talk about how Garcia walked through a high number of punches or bulled him around at points as if Manny can do the same.

For me, it comes down to what Margarito has left and his last fight wasn't enough to fully guage that. Margarito appears to have had an ebullient, productive camp and to be getting himself in good shape, but that can be misleading if the fighter is already irreversibly deteriorated - there are certain things in a fighter that no amount of hard labor in camp can bring back once they're gone.
One thing I think I have fully convinced myself of is that Tony was always naturally pretty heavy-handed as a welterweight and that illegal advantages weren't anything to do with the hurt he put on Cotto or earlier opponents. I look at Pacquiao's smallish welterweight stature, how tender his face has looked even after dominating in his last two fights, and conclude that, for all his resilience, he can't afford to get hit much against Margarito. Not least because Margarito builds momentum the more he hits you, you can't allow him to get a foothold.

If Pacquiao is exchanging firepower instead of just dispensing it, he's in trouble.
Good post, but it is also important to realize that superficial injuries and swelling do not equate to a lack of durability. Take Margarito's loss to Mosley for example. Even after taking a severe beating, Margarito's face was still relatively unmarked, he still got broken down and knocked out.

How a fighters face shows the punishment they take is largely individual, and has no bearing on their durability. Ricky Hatton made a career out of being durable, and his face looked like he went through a meat grinder after every fight. He still took what his opponents had to offer, and beat them down.

1 - Margarito has underrated timing/counterpunching against southpaws, he has this hard counter right uppercut/hook to the body that he lands a lot on southpaws. I don't see Pacquiao getting away from it consistently either.

2 - Margarito has underrated defense against southpaws, he caught/blocked/dodged most of Williams jabs and straight lefts.

3 - Margarito finds a way to consistently get to them offensively, he starts landing that right to the body after that he starts coming with his left hook to the body, straight right up top, etc.

4 - Pacquiao's defense is based almost entirely on his legs, as soon as Margarito is able to consistently close the distance, his legs won't be able to get him out of trouble consistently. Pacquiao has almost no inside game, so all he does is cover up and shoot his counter right hook.

5 - Margarito won't respect Pacquiao's power, he has a great chin to do this, but even when he does get hurt or stunned, he'll still keep coming forward. He got hurt against Santos (who had a 10 pound advantage 160 to 170) and he still came forward.

6 - The pressure he puts on is incredible. Even Paul Williams throwing 1200+ punches had to consistently hold to a point where he was warned in the 7th and kept holding in spots. Paul Williams was taller (easier for taller fighters to hold an opponent) and had good strength to keep Margarito in the clinch, 2 things I feel Pacquiao won't be able to do. When Margarito gets to his body and starts piling it on, he won't be able to stop it, unless he runs.

7 - Pacquiao's aggressiveness will play against him. He will expend energy exploding in, letting his combinations go, and getting out. Only to have Margarito's counter right to the body land in the exchange, if Margarito misses, he'll just come right back and let his shots go.

To me, the most important question that has to be answered in the fight is:

Can Pacquiao take Margarito's body shots and pressure without getting worn down?

Believe it or not, the man you probably feel is too slow to land, will land, and Manny's resistance will have to answer that question.

I had Pacquiao by UD and I thought it would be easy, but it's changed (not because of any rumor or hype either) to Margarito KO10.
        nice analysis

I dont think people really think Pac hits hard until you get in the ring with him.

Marg will underestimate Pacs power but eventually all those blows will take an effect.

I think after the 3-4th round youll start to see whos going to take this fight..
Lol...i just found this thread browsing around, and you called this perfectly! Props!
