Ross Greenberg - "Andre Berto Will Have a Big Fight in '11, Or He Won't Be on HBO"

Originally posted by Dan-O-Mac View PostThe way it could have and should have went down. From the HBO and the State of Boxing article.
“Golden Boy gets advance notice of HBO’s strategic planning,” complains one promoter.
“Richard Schaefer tells managers and fighters about dates that the rest of us aren’t even aware of,” says another.
A refrain that rival promoters say they often hear from Davis is, “We don’t have any open dates. Why don’t you talk with Golden Boy.”
There was no room at the inn for Zab Judah until Kathy Duva of Main Events (Judah’s promoter) went to Richard Schaefer. HBO then agreed to televise Judah vs. Lucas Matthysse from the Prudential Center in Newark on November 6th, but insisted that it be paired with Robert Guerrero against Vincente Escobar. Matthysse, Guerrero, and Escobar are all Golden Boy fighters.
“Look at the undercard for Judah-Matthysse,” Duva says. “I wanted to work with Russell Peltz and put Mike Jones in the co-feature against another top welterweight. Mike is from Philadelphia. He’s undefeated and has a big fan following. It would have given him a foothold in the Prudential Center and established him as a future opponent for Andre Berto. But Golden Boy had the date; so instead, we’re stuck with two Mexican-Americans from California fighting in New Jersey in the first TV fight of the night. They’ll sell no tickets and the crowd won’t care.”
Although this is obviously an excerpt from a certain article, it's still the best post of the thread. Props to you dude!
Everybody was busy taking shots at Berto that nobody seems to noticed that Greenburg is still in bed with Oscar. HBO better watch out for a Bob Arum looking like a woman scorned, because he will definitely bring his business elsewhere if it was just for the same coin, and HBO Sports will be reduced to showing Canelo fighting palookas reruns every other month until his next fight versus a patsy...

If he fights Pac would it be for the ring/lineal championship seeing as May has pretty much retired?

I wanna see Berto-Clottey. Clottey would spank him badly and he deserves a chance after all the tough ass fights he already did.

make :
cotto vs margrito 2.
and get :
mosley vs Berto happening.
even if shane gets outboxed and hurt badly by pac,it would still be a test for berto, and i think berto woudl fail, ide happily see shane knock the sh(*t into berto to take his title.
then should cotto beat margarito:
cotto vs mosley 2 !.

Your crazy. Berto would ud clottey. Plus how would that satisfy the anti-berto masses? They say he needs better fights, but mosley doesn't qualify. Ortiz and hatton aren't good enough for them either. If he fought his mandatory most would rip him hardest. What next then? If he tries to fight pac, his detractors say how dare he, who does he think he is calling out pac man? The bash berto fans dog him for fighting guys from the division directly beneath his, yet they demand he fight a champion from the division directly above his.
Just admit it berto v. anyone wouldn't change the venom most have for him. There really is a pattern with a certain group of fighters

Is Matt Hatton enough for a "big fight"?
How the hell is Berto overpaid yet they're threatening to drop him?
