Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez vs Paul Williams Interview Transcript

Daniel Goossen: Well, guys, I know that we've got a two-part teleconference today so I'm not going to do a lot of talking and I don't want to hear any applause because I said that, but it's a fight - Martinez and Williams II. It's a fight that we're all getting excited about. And it's a great fight for our sport. I believe it's the biggest fight this year, and that includes the great one that we'll probably see with Pacquiao and Margarito. Caesars Atlantic City, they have been great good partner, DiBella Entertainment bringing Martinez to the table and Corona and HBO.

here the thing i dont get Williams gets mad when the welterweights wont fight him and they bout 5 inches shorter.but when middlewights and light heavyweights invite him to test himself there he doesnt like jumping at the chance. all the advantages he has in the 147 class go to 168 or higher 6'3 versus 5'9 guys isnt really giving fans something to look at.Plus when he had the Margarito and cintron and wright fights he hasnt wowed people there average wins

LOL@ Williams' team ducking Montoya's questions about the catchweight.

boxing is determined by weight classes not height classes. why should williams have to put himself at a disadvantage just cause he's tall? the guy only weighed 162 pounds a month before his fight. fighting at middle or light heavy he would be severely outweighed on the night of the fight. sergio weighed 176 for a fight at 157 and im sure most welterweights weigh more than 162 between fights so why the double standard?

WW's won't fight him because he doesn't bring any money to the table versus the risk. If he was a superstar doing 1 million buys fighting tomato cans fighters would be tripping all over themselves to throw their hat into the ring.

Paul Williams: I look forward after the 20th, but that's more motivation in knowing that so that would motivate me even more you know what I'm saying, I'll go out there and put on a good show, and to be real cautious and do my thing.

Michael Woods: Did you say, "Be real cautious"?

                  Paul Williams: Yes.

Michael Woods: You're going to be cautious, you said?

                  Paul Williams: Be real cautious.

Michael Woods: Why are you going to be cautious on the 20th?

Paul Williams: I don't want him to be hurt bad.

Michael Woods: You don't want to hurt him that bad?

                  Paul Williams: Yes.

Michael Woods: OK. So you're going to put a beating on him but you don't want to hurt him that bad?

Paul Williams: Oh, yes, you know, nothing personal, just business.
wtf? that doesn't make any sense. He's going to be cautious so he doesn't hurt martinez?
