I've seen the Howard Smith fight thanks. It resembles a lot of Shavers' stoppage wins: Shavers swarms all over his opponent from the first, bludgeons him with shots to the head and body, and knocks him down a few times until eventually the ref waves it off. That shows that he's a good finisher, but not a great one-punch knockout artist. If he was, his opponents wouldn't be getting up. Not that I'm not willing to be convinced. All I'm looking for that one bone-chilling knockout of a top (or at least mid-level) guy that would justify all the praise. So far I've not seen it.

Here's an interesting thing I've noticed about Tua. Not one of his opponents to my knowledge has ever made it to the finish line once he's knocked them down. When Tua had you hurt you were as good as done.

yeah but you can't help not to be shocked by the way he just slumped to the canvas...........

But I don't really understand. You've mentioned the Jimmy ellis knockout yourself. Shouldn't that be enough?

But I'll tell you something: I'm just as equally impressed when I see someone stumbling around all over the ring lifeless, compared to a "ruiz style" knockout.

Tyson had that effect on a number of fighters. So did Tua. Watch the Oleg Maskaev or David Izon fights.

Watch the way Izon's head lolls back like his neck is broken. Truly chilling.

shavers didn't have the best chin.

he cut easily and didn't have good stamina as well.

tua is a bad matchup for shavers.

No. Lewis one punch KOed Rahman far more viciously than Shavers did to Ellis. Tyson had numerous legit one punch KOs to his credit. So did Tua. None of these guys is fit to spit-shine Shavers shoes power-wise according to some people. If Shavers stands at the top of the heap then he needs more than a measly one impressive KO to get my vote. I wanna see neck snapping, eyes rolling back, drool coming out of their mouth KOs of the type that the above mentioned three fighters all achieved.

That may be so, but logic dictates that if fighter A makes his opponents woozy with punches and fighter B knocks his (comparable) opponent unconscious then fighter B is the harder puncher. I don't consider Tua to be one of the hardest punchers in Heavyweight history just to be cute and go against the grain, I do so because I genuinely believe, based on the video evidence, that he legitimately was one of the hardest punchers ever.

Yeah here's a prime, 28 year old Shavers:

Me thinks Tua beats both of these guys.
