No you don't. That's never been true, when the lineal title is vacant. We're talking about the #1 contender spot, we're not talking about the champion. To be the #1 contender, you just have to have the most impressive recent record.

That's not true either. For instance, Hopkins has been gradually moving down the Light Heavyweight rankings over the past two years, due to inactivity and a low quality of opposition, but only fighters who have made a real statement during that period have moved above him, and he's still ranked #4 at the weight even now.

The only Welterweight who had made a real statement between Mosley beating Margarito and the Mayweather-Mosley fight, is Pacquiao. (I don't count the May-Marquez fight because beating a blown up Super-Featherweight isn't a statement that should affect the Welterweight rankings, IMO, however impressive you look in the fight).

First he cries over a drug test, then for p4p list.... Pathetic.... should try growing a pair for once in his life!

OMG...im impressed that mayweather needed 11 rounds to beat hatton (pac needed only 2)...im impressed that mayweather beat delahoya by split decision (pac destroyed and schooled delahoya in 8...the pac that delahoya said makes too many mistakes)

and im impressed that mayweather beat mosley at close to being 40 and a year and a half layoff...who's last 3 fights were a lost to cotto, a last round KO of mayorgo in the closing seconds in which mosley struggled in every round except for the last 10 seconds of the last round, without the KO, mosley may have lost that fight, and after that, mosley convincingly beat margarito

very impressive last 3 fights for mosley before fighting mayweather...yah, mosley looked like the #1 welterweight before fighting mayweather.

if mosleys last 3 fights prior to fighting mayweather equates to being number 1 welterweight, boxing is a joke. because all pac did was destroy diaz, destroyed and reconfigured delahoyas pretty face, killed hatton, destroyed cotto, and destroyed clottey...pacs last 5 fights have been the most impressive wins by one single boxer ive seen in the past few years...nobody even comes close

lucky for mayweather that mosley dont know how to throw compact volume punches and even so more lucky that mosley got tired since the early rounds...how mosley got tired all of a sudden ismind boggling

Exactly - so many people seem to mix the two up.

                Yes, .

Clearly he has a lot of respect in the sport, but that must be because of his journalism in the distant past (he's 72). His recent writing has mostly been very unprofessional, IMO, and this article is just a rant, and not worthy of boxingscene.

And who did floyd beat at 147? A grandpa mosley that has no stamina and just stand in front of floyd.

Mosley got tired..... of Floyds jab, thats for sure. Mosley was unloading BOMBS for the first 3 rounds, that got him tired. Its always a risk going for the KO early, you dont know how bad your opponent is hurt, because if he comes back, you might not have anything left for the full match. Nazeem Richardson knew this, he even told him to "stop looking for the one shot and relax". No matter how everyone puts, Shane is an amazing fighter, even at age 38 he still can beat/ have a very good chance at any of the top p4p fighters on the list. I was supporting Sugar Shane Mosley last staurday, one of my all time favorite fighters. Now that Floyd beat him , i HAVE to give him respect, Shane is no walk in the park, we saw that in the 2nd round, if people dont see it, then just like Roger Mayweather said:"People dont know **** about boxing". I start laughing everytime i here him say that.
