One fight can be enough to make you #1, if it's decisive enough, and if it's against a top contender. That's why Mayweather is ranked #1 now, after only one fight against a Welterweight in the last two years. According to your logic, he shouldn't be #1.

Mosley lost narrowly to Cotto, then had a fight at Jnr Middleweight, then beat Margarito. Pac didn't just beat Cotto, he destroyed Cotto. He got the #1 spot then for exactly the same reason that Mayweather got it now - a decisive near shut-out against a top contender.

well then floyd should also be rated #1 p4p he shut out two high ranking p4ps. that should then elevate his p4p status as well. IMO. how say you dave rado?

based on this then it doesn't matter who does what he thinks Pacquiao should be no. 1 because he is Pacquiao, forget the fact that Floyd dominated the best and proven Welterweight champion, by proven I mean he fought a Welterweight champion under the OFFICIAL Welterweight limit of 147lb's, Pacquiao beats Cotto and Clottey and in this guys mind he should be no.1 when Floyd just toyed with the man who beat who beat the man that gave Cotto his 1st loss and Clottey a loss when he actually let his hands go, Floyd beat Shane Mosley and title or no title it makes him the best fighter in the world pound for pound, he beat Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley back to back man give him his credit Ronnie

You're as biased as Ronnie is but in the opposite direction.

Clottey didn't let his hands go against Pac for exactly the same reason that Mosley didn't let his hands go against Mayweather - in both cases, whenever they let their hands go, they took a lot of punishment.

Mosley beat Margarito but styles make fights. Cotto beat Mosley when they fought each other. Plus it's hard to believe that Margarito was focussed in that fight, given that he'd just been caught cheating. So it was a toss-up whether Cotto or Mosley was the true #1 at that time. And it's a toss-up whether May or Pac should be now. And The Ring admit that it's a toss-up. Anyone that says it's completley clear cut is hopelessly biased.

I don't think the Marquez fight meant anything (other than the fact that it was a great performance by Floyd and proved he wasn't suffering from any ring rust). Marquez wouldn't be the favourite to beat any of the top 5 Welterweights, if he fought them at Welterweight. His P4P status is irrelevant. No one is suggesting that a Floyd-Calderon fight would mean anything. JMM was a blown up Super-Featherweight who was physically dominated even at Lightweight and only succeeded at that weight because of his skills. He doesn't belong north of 135.

IMO it's a toss-up who should be #1 right now, I think they're basically joint #1 right now. .

Again after Cotto he shouldn't have been #1. But, after beating two top 5 WW and one of them was ranked at #3. Should get you the #1 spot IF the guy at #1 hasn't fought in over 12 months. You can't just sit on your ranking.

And, is ranking not championship. To be the champ you have to beat the champ. To be ranked #1 you DO NOT have to beat the #1 rank guy.

Although I have no problem with The Ring's rating Floyd's #1, and although I think Ronnie article was a pathetic rant, the real point he was trying to make was that The Ring did not rank Mosley as the #1 WW in the world, leading up to the Mosley-Mayweather fight. They ranked Pac #1, Mosley #2 and Mayweather #3. So Mayweather beat the man whom The Ring ranked #2 at the time. So it's not as clear cut as you say it is.
