If indeed it's true that Joe Calzaghe is coming back then I think it only makes sense for him to get on track to fight Lucien Bute. As far as Robin Reid ehhhh. A bigger comeback fight would be to get Kelly Pavlik to come up to 168 and fight him there. Talk about making some noise

You may be right. I find it difficult to believe. He agreed to a 50/50 split and the fight took a loss.

Yes Calzaghe avoided a Dawson match, but we don't know if he dodged it. Could be that he just wanted to retire by beating Roy Jones Jr. even though a win over Dawson had cemented his legacy completely.
I think there's a fair chance that he can come back and beat Dawson, but I think Bute will beat him unfortunatly - But depends if Bute can go 12 rounds, because against Andrade he couldn't. Calzaghe stacks rounds like no other.

All this is based on Calzaghe's inactivity, before he retired, todays Bute vs. former Calzaghe would be one sweet match, I could see it go both ways.

          (Joe won't come back.)
Just listen to Enzo Calzaghe just before round 12, he tells Calzaghe that he needs to knock out Hopkins to win. Look at Hopkins face when he's been told Calzaghe won, hes like wtf.
I just named 3 seperate news agencies that scored the fight for hopkins.
Fair enough, Calzaghe won a close decision against a 43 year old, what does he want a clap?

I think Dawson's activity, speed and arm length would be too much for Hopkins.
Just because Hopkins can beat Dawson doesn't mean Dawson loses to Calzaghe. Taylor beat Hopkins twice, lost to Pavlik twice but Hopkins schooled Pavlik.

He did dodge Dawson, Dawson called him out repeatedly and instead of fighting him he fought an old Hopkins who he expected to beat easily and according to his own words a washed up Jones.

Agreed. BTW, I don't think any version of Hops within the last three years could've beaten Dawson.

What I ment was, that he didn't fight Dawson and that might be because he wanted to have his last fight against Roy Jones Jr. You can't say for certain that he ducked Dawson, that's a guess. Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong. Stating something different is pure opinion. But I see one of the reasons why he chose not to fight both Pavlik and Dawson, one of them being that both fighters were pretty green and he might realize that if he beat one of them bigtime like he did with Lacy, people still wouldn't credit him.

It could also be because he was getting up in age and earned whatever money he wanted to or saw something that made him fear Dawson/Pavlik, we will probably never know. Maybe the risk didn't have a good enough reward. I mean he made ton of money in his last two fights, where as Dawson or Pavlik wouldn't even be close to generate the same kind of purse.

No doubt it's interesting, but still this debate has been ****d to the point where there's no reason to go on arguing over something that only Joe Calzaghe himself know.

Yeah it was a debatable decision, but none the less it was 3 american judges and the match was fought on american soil and Hopkins cheated and headbutted his way through the match.

Dawson almost got crushed by Glen Johnson in the 12th round of their first match, he gassed, and we all know that fighting the Italian dragon is one of the most exhausting things you can do. I don't think he would have the stamina to keep up with Joe Calzaghe. I think Joe would stack rounds based on his workrate and output. Dawson is still limited, but there's loads of potential.

I may have judged you too early, sorry about that. It was just your post that made me a bit annoyed.
That Johnson fight did dawson good, he learnt alot from that fight... johnson is a durable, experienced road warrior - Dawson wasnt and still isnt the finished article.. I dont think what you seen in Calzaghes two fights at LH is enough proof to see to say he'd beat a much younger, active and hungry up and comer who actually has an output...

But like you said its just opinion, but mine is that I think Dawson would come good up against Joe at LH.. and if they fought now in a come back fight i think he'd absolutely embarrass him...

If Froch wins the entire super 6 and Joe Calzaghe fights a nobody like he did almost his entire career for a warm up and wins, It would set up a major major fight of "hometown" rivals.

I would pay to see it.

We agree on pretty much everything, except I think Calzaghe beat him back in the day. Today, I don't know.
