Yes Calzaghe avoided a Dawson match, but we don't know if he dodged it. Could be that he just wanted to retire by beating Roy Jones Jr. even though a win over Dawson had cemented his legacy completely.
I think there's a fair chance that he can come back and beat Dawson, but I think Bute will beat him unfortunatly - But depends if Bute can go 12 rounds, because against Andrade he couldn't. Calzaghe stacks rounds like no other.

All this is based on Calzaghe's inactivity, before he retired, todays Bute vs. former Calzaghe would be one sweet match, I could see it go both ways.

    (Joe won't come back.)
You are the could have would have should have fan. Don't you see you are advocating cowardice? All you are saying is you don't really believe Calzaghe is that good but because you think others don't see the same you see, you think the 0 will say something different. Bute, Calzaghe, wtf is up with the European top fighters? Step up of shut up, i mean really. Calzaghe: never takes a real challenge except for Kessler who went on to do nothing. None of Calzaghe's opponents went on to do anything world class, none. That tells me more than the 0. And it should tell you too. About Bute, the guy's not even in the tournament which will determine the best SMW in the world, he already gets votes. Those kinds of fans are just ******. I bet that when/if (because i doubt it) Bute signs to fight a Ward, Dirrell, Abraham or Dawson kind of fighter, we'll no longer "be the best SMW", doubts will cloud your insecure mind. It's real easy to win fantasy fights, why don't you wait till the real challenges happen so you make your say?

Reid would be a terrible choice of opponent.

If he wants to come back in a fight that will make him money without taking too much of a risk then he should face Danny Green. That will also mean that Calzaghe can test how hard it would be to make 175 again because the Green fight could be at 180 or 185.

But I think he should stay retired. I wanted him to face Dawson in early 2009 but I don't think he'd be the same fighter if he came back now.

Yeah...it's not like he developed the habit in his early 30's . Pea was sniffing as far back as you can go. Everyone knew about his coke habits.

I DON'T think he should come back, but at least with Calzage you get a fighter who comes forward and doesn't run like David Haye. Calzage takes the fight to every opponent.

Open secret, But people thought he was only on it towards the end of his career (De la Hoya fight) But Pea was an addict through his career.

You admit he avoided a dawson matchup - but don't know if he dodged it???... whats the difference - I'm just curious?

Then you go on to say it would of cemented his career, but in a previous post you claim dawson is not slick enough for calzaghe so if your notion is right why would he dodge (oops sorry) avoid him????

End of the day.... Calzaghe went up to light heavy got a debatable gift against hopkins... then cashed out on a RJ fight... Didnt want anything of a Dawson or even a Johnson matchup. Dodged or avoided which ever way you wanna put it...

Dont take this as me flaming you, just dont understand how you make out that Dawson isn't slick enough for Calzaghe @ Light Heavy..
Okay first of all, let me clear this up, I used the wrong word, my bad. I shouldn't have said avoided. What I ment was, that he didn't fight Dawson and that might be because he wanted to have his last fight against Roy Jones Jr. You can't say for certain that he ducked Dawson, that's a guess. Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong. Stating something different is pure opinion. But I see one of the reasons why he chose not to fight both Pavlik and Dawson, one of them being that both fighters were pretty green and he might realize that if he beat one of them bigtime like he did with Lacy, people still wouldn't credit him.

It could also be because he was getting up in age and earned whatever money he wanted to or saw something that made him fear Dawson/Pavlik, we will probably never know. Maybe the risk didn't have a good enough reward. I mean he made ton of money in his last two fights, where as Dawson or Pavlik wouldn't even be close to generate the same kind of purse.

No doubt it's interesting, but still this debate has been ****d to the point where there's no reason to go on arguing over something that only Joe Calzaghe himself know.

Yeah it was a debatable decision, but none the less it was 3 american judges and the match was fought on american soil and Hopkins cheated and headbutted his way through the match.

Dawson almost got crushed by Glen Johnson in the 12th round of their first match, he gassed, and we all know that fighting the Italian dragon is one of the most exhausting things you can do. I don't think he would have the stamina to keep up with Joe Calzaghe. I think Joe would stack rounds based on his workrate and output. Dawson is still limited, but there's loads of potential.

I may have judged you too early, sorry about that. It was just your post that made me a bit annoyed.
