Comments Thread For: Pavlik's Manager: Cut Man Cost Kelly The Titles

In the weeks leading up to the fight, manager Cameron Dunkin had issued several warnings to his fighter, Kelly Pavlik, and trainer Jack Loew, about hiring Sid Brumback to work as the cut man for last Saturday's title defense against Sergio Martinez at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. They were horrible cuts, no cut-man could stop that ****. Stop letting the fighter in front of you beat you to a bloody mess and stop blaming the cut-man. Go ahead fire him, when its really your own fault for allowing the punches to cut you!

They could have been stopped. Pavlik for sure had caught on to Martinez movement, and timin. A rematch would be inetersting.

kelly lost the fight fair and square, but still. the cut guy was a ****ing idiot. kellys face was too dry be4 the bell even rang. and sure the cuts were HORRIBLE by the end of the fight, but they didn't start that bad. they got progressivly worse because the moron in his corner, half the time, held wet/rough towels on his face for 50 seconds, took them off then kell went back to fighting. HE DIDN'T PUT ANY KIND OF SOLUTION INTO THE CUTS.of course the cut man can never LOSE a fight 100% for a fighter, but he for damn sure could have helped kelly out a hell of a lot more. i thought the guy in martinez' corner was a fool cuz of this sunglasses...at least he had half a brain.

Cut man cost Pavlik maybe winning another round. Martinez clearly turned it up and let his hands go. He realized that Kelly was starting to block the first and second punch, so he threw several in combination like what Pac did to Cotto.

Besides it was punches that started every cut on top of that. Not like it was a butt. Kelly did good getting it back together in the middle rounds, but Martinez is just too fast for him int he long run.

looked pretty obvious that he was doing the wrong thing. wasnt even using the right equipment, and the trainer was questioning him at every interval asking him what the hell he was doing. They were nasty cuts, but i've seen a lot worse stopped. Even the HBO commentators commented on the poor job the guy was doing.

no fighter should EVER get off his stool with blood RUNNING DOWN HIS FACE. kelly did that at least 3 rounds.

I guess you do make a point to some extent. Cuts were horrible though, they were going to bleed either way. And if Pavlik didn't let his opponent hit him in the face so much then he wouldn't have to worry about the cuts in the first place.

i agree, but blaming the cutman is a wrong....martinez's fists cost them the fight.
