Comments Thread For: Calzaghe: "David Haye Would Hurt Bernard Hopkins"

Bernard Hopkins is telling anyone who will listen - "I will be heavyweight champion in 2010." Hopkins decisioned Enrique Ornelas on Wednesday night in dominating fashion. He wants a shot at David Haye's WBA heavyweight title next year. Hopkins and Haye are both under the Golden Boy Promotions banner. Hopkins was set to fight Roy Jones Jr. in a rematch in March but Jones was stopped by Danny Green in one round in Australia, also on Wednesday.

Haye is a beast no matter what. I respect Bernard for his accomplishments, but going against Haye, he will be the one getting executed. Go for Dawson or somebody you might have a chance at beating.

Yeah Joe is right.....the fact that so many posters are seriously entertaining the idea of Haye/Hopkins being anything other than poor old Hopkins getting brutalized further proves the lack of realism in this forum......I didn't catch the end of the fight tonight because I had to go to work but rounds 1-9 were a bit too competitive for me to think B-hop has a chance against a stronger faster, younger opponent who out weighs him by about 30lbs.

I agree with Joe, it would be a mistake for Hopkins to get into the ring with Haye, who's got stamina, power and speed... and of course Hopkins said the RJJ fight is still on he just witnessed him getting KO'd in the first round i'm sure he wouldn't mind getting a piece of him.

got to disagree with the bit in bold, Haye still has question marks over his stamina. He's not one for doing roadwork either.

But yeah I would say Jones is his best option then call it a day.

Haye would knock Hopkins head off. Dude should retire he's going to keep pushing himself till he ends up crippled.

Hopkins would UD Haye. He'll systematically break him down. Let's not forget you need pressure+workrate or Footwork+handspeed to beat Hopkins. If you don't have one of those two combinations then you will not beat Bernard Hopkins. Haye has speed and power, speed and power does not beat a fighter like Hopkins unless you have speed, power, workrate and footwork. Haye doesn't even have stamina.

Haye would be taken to school by Hopkins' counterpunching. It'll be Hopkins vs Tarver all over again.

If Haye lands remotely flush, Hopkins is out
Any elusiveness Hopkins has at the lower weights, will be even less evident at HW.
